Step into Mom’s Kitchen at the 50’s Prime Time Café in Disney’s Hollywood Studios

There's no shortage of great places to eat when you're visiting Disney's Hollywood Studios, but one of our favorites is the 50's Prime Time Cafe.

This table service location is a true blast-from-the-past. The restaurant is themed to look just like Mom's kitchen. Or what mom's kitchen would have looked like back in the 1950s. From the moment you step in the restaurant and find yourself waiting in "Dad's Living Room" or when you're seated in one of the many "kitchens" you are surrounded by kitchy awesomeness.

The decor is filled with items you might remember from your grandparent's house (or your parent's house), including vintage-looking chairs, lounges, and tables. And in the dining room areas there are shelves of knick-knacks that serve a dual purpose as both decor and room dividers.

Once you are seated by a "cousin" (everyone is family at the 50's Prime Time Cafe) the real fun starts. The wait staff won't hesitate to give you or anyone in your party a lesson in manners once you're seated at the Formica tables. (We just love the TV tables where you can watch vintage black-and-white clips from TV shows from the mid '50s!)

A few rules to remember when you're dining at Prime Time Cafe: wash your hands, put your napkin in your lap, keep your elbows off the table, and chew with your mouth closed.

But the real show-stopper here is the food, so let's dig in! If you're looking for some great appetizers the Onion Rings or the Fried Herb and Garlic Cheese are always a hit. Entrees include the 50's Prime Time Cafe Blue Plate Special (with seasonal choices), Mom's Favorite Recipes (where you get a little bit of everything!), and Cousin Ann's Traditional Meatloaf.

The portions at the 50's Prime Time Cafe are pretty big, so be sure to bring your appetite. Oh, and you'll also want to eat all your vegetables. If you don't, it's very likely that your "cousin" will make you eat them. Yes, really.

Once you've managed to eat everything on your plate, it's time for dessert. The dessert menu used to be presented in a Viewfinder, but we've heard that guests are also being shown a "regular" dessert menu too. (If you've visited lately, let us know which version you saw!).

The desserts include s'mores, traditional apple crisp, and Dad's Brownie Sundae. The brownie sundae is one of those "must-try-it" desserts. It includes a chocolate brownie topped with creamy vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, caramel sauce, Cracker Jack, candy pieces, and whipped cream.

The 50's Prime Time Cafe is one of those restaurants on property where you're going to eat good food, have great service that is entertaining, and really see that magic of Disney in your surroundings. The next time you're at Disney's Hollywood Studios, make sure to get a reservation at the 50's Prime Time Cafe.
