When staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel I tend to consider the dining options when making my final decision. Is there somewhere to grab a quick and delicious breakfast? What type of table service dining " if any " is available? Can I find good coffee quickly in the morning? All important factors when choosing a hotel.
The sheer number of dining options at Disney World makes it rather difficult to narrow a list down to the "top 5" or "top 10" of anything. But that doesn't mean we don't try! So today we'll look at the top five quick service restaurants at the Walt Disney World Resort hotels.
One of the best resort quick service meals I've ever had was at Landscape of Flavors at Disney's Art of Animation Resort. The meal: Tandoori shrimp and Naan bread. I still think about it to this day - and it's been two years.
Landscape of Flavors takes quick service dining to a new level with customizable selections available at every meal. For breakfast guests can visit the "French Toast Shop," the "Omelet Shop," the "Waffle Shop," and the "Pancake Shop." Lunch choices include create your own pastas or salads, Curry Chicken, pizza, and more. And at dinner the menu features dishes including Kielbasa and Pierogies, Mongolia Beef Stir Fry, pastas, pizzas, and more.
The one downfall of Landscape of Flavors is that with the customizable options wait times can be long. When we dined there our food was delivered at different times so we some of us were done eating before the other food was delivered. But as long as you're aware of a potential wait, it won't be a surprise if you dine here.
Roaring Fork at Disney's Wilderness Lodge is another favorite quick service spot, but we'll only visit if we're staying at the resort, unlike Landscape of Flavors, which we'll visit if we're at Pop Century. If you love Mickey Waffles for breakfast you have to try the specialty waffles at Roaring Fork! Waffle choices include Bananas Foster, Chocolate Lovers, and Strawberry.
The dining room here is seriously small for such a big resort, but there is seating outside too. Make sure you stop by for the Roast Beef and Blue Sandwich at lunch or dinner and don't forget to grab a Magic Cookie Bar for later!
Mickey Mouse waffles are certainly an iconic breakfast food at Disney World, but if given a choice I'd rather make the trek to Captain Cook's at Disney's Polynesian Village for Tonga Toast! (You'll also find Tonga Toast at Kona Cafe, but we're talking quick service today).
If you aren't familiar, Tonga Toast is banana-stuffed sourdough bread that is battered and deep fried and dusted with cinnamon sugar. Basically it's heaven on a plate. I have been known to take a bus to the Magic Kingdom and Monorail to the Poly JUST to eat Tonga Toast for breakfast. It is THAT good. And that's why Captain Cook's is a favorite quick service spot. I'm sure the other food is good too, but I only visit for breakfast. ;-)
Want to make Tonga Toast at home (who doesn't??)? Check out this recipe from our friends at the Disney Food Blog.
Since we're on the topic of Magic Kingdom resort hotels, there's another must-visit quick service spot on the Monorail loop: Contempo Cafe at Disney's Contemporary Resort.
This is a favorite spot for lunch or dinner for us when we need a break from the madness of the theme parks. The Contempo Cafe menu is anything but standard quick service food. Breakfast choices include frittatas, and at lunch and dinner you can order a Lobster Roll. We've had the Lobster Roll and it is totally worth the $18 price tag.
Other favorites include the Pot Roast, Chicken Alfredo Pasta, and the Flatbreads, especially the Caprese Flatbread and the Meat Lovers Flatbread. Of course you'll want to save room for dessert because Contempo Cafe is home to some of the most delicious cupcakes on property. And, they have a cupcake of the month and that's pretty darn magical.
Other things to love about the Contempo Cafe: the Monorail zips past overhead, and you can walk to the Outer Rim just across the way and get a drink to enjoy with your dinner and cupcake.
The last stop on our top 5 list is Everything Pop at Disney's Pop Century. Since Pop Century is often our home-away-from-home at Disney World we've spent a lot of time at Everything Pop. This quick service spot is really big and quite loud, but the food is really good. Everything Pop has seven stations: grab 'n' go items, grill fare, pizza, pasta, sandwiches, healthy choices and ethnic cuisine.
The Pop Waffle is a must at breakfast, or if you're feeling really adventurous you can try the Pop-Tart Breakfast Sandwich. Lunch and dinner favorites include Chicken Cavatappi with Alfredo Sauce, create-your-own salads, Chicken Parm (dinner only), and pizzas.
Last year Everything Pop introduced specialty burgers including The Benedict Burger, The Picnic Burger, The Southwestener, and The Johnny Appleseed. If you like unique burgers, these should be on your radar! And don't forget to save room for the popular Tie-Dye Cheesecake (it is served in a bowl now rather than in a slice, but it is still delicious) or for the Everything Pop Sundae.
And there you have it: our favorite quick service spots at the Walt Disney World Resort hotels. Other favorites include The Mara at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge (zebra domes!) and Sassagula Floatworks and Food Factory (beignets!).
Many thanks to the Disney Food Blog for their photos.
We'd love to hear your favorite resort quick service spot, so let us know in the comments.
