Two New Dishes Debut At Disney's Animal Kingdom's Flame Tree Barbecue

When Disney fans talk BBQ, one of the first spots to indulge you'll hear about is the Flame Tree Barbecue at Disney's Animal Kingdom. For the past several months, this popular spot has been closed for refurbishment. Time to rejoice is finally here because Flame Tree is open for business again, and has two new fresh dishes on the menu to tempt your tastebuds.

Refurbishments to the quick service establishment were largely a back of the house affair with improvements made to cast member areas. It also included and extension of porch roof over the ordering queue, and large fans to keep the air circulating while guests wait. Seating at the Flame Tree BBQ continues to remain entirely outdoors, however the colorful pavilions provide shade from the sun, and the waterside tables often offer a breezy spot to enjoy a relaxing meal.

Fan favorite foods, such as the Smoked 1/2 Chicken, St. Louis Ribs, and Pork Sandwich, and Turkey Legs have remained on the menu at the BBQ with no noticeable price increase. In addition, there have been a couple of menu changes worth noting.

A new Jamaican Jerk Chicken Salad replaced the old Smoked Chicken Salad. The Mixed Greens are tossed with Black Beans, Sweet Corn, Cornbread Crumbs, and a Chipotle Yogurt Dressing. It's a great meal when the heat is high and guests are looking for something lighter to enjoy.

A Watermelon Salad has also been added to the menu, taking the place of the previous Fruit Plate. The new Watermelon Salad, includes Watermelon cubes tossed with Feta cheese, Arugula, Pickled Red Onion, and a White Balsamic Vinaigrette. It's light and refreshing with the pickled onions marinated just enough to take the edge out of their flavor and not overwhelm.

Finally, a Jalapeno Cornbread has replaced coleslaw as the second side dish accompanying the main BBQ entrees. With a cake-like texture and just a touch of heat, it's perfect slathered with butter.

If you love the Flame Tree flavors and have always wanted to take a bottle of the sauce home with you, it's worth noting that Zuri's Sweet Shop in the Harambe Market is now selling these fan favorites. Buying a bottle or a spice rub is a great way to bring some of that Disney taste home.

I love a good barbecue restaurant, but why, why, why, must every place serve jalapeno cornbread? It's not the heat that I'm opposed to. Granted, I'm not a huge fan of spicy food, but a little heat is ok. I just don't like the taste of peppers. Plain old cornbread is delicious on its own. Why do they have to ruin it by adding peppers? Aaaaggghh....

I loved their coleslaw. To me, you always have baked beans and coleslaw with bbq. So I'm bummed about the jalapeno cornbread. I mean, it sounds good, but not in the place of my coleslaw. :(

I'm with you Barbra, I also think they should have kept the slaw as a side option. Disney's been making some questionable menu changes recently.
