It's Friday - so say good-bye to the workweek and join me for a look at another fantastic Disney cocktail. 2016 saw increased growth at Disney's Animal Kingdom, including a new lounge where weary travelers can choose to take a rest. The Nomad Lounge is tucked back next to the river on Discovery Island, just behind Tiffins Signature Restaurant.
A light rain started to come down as I arrived at the lounge, but still the lounge's amazing deck space called to me. The elegant patio is well covered, so my party and I chose a comfortable seating area to relax and wait out the downpour. While several other Disney lounges offer indoor outdoor areas, the Nomad Lounge's patio is truly exceptional with inviting furniture, and green jungle views. There's something about this spot that allows one to make that slip through space and time to believe you're really somewhere else.
My son and I ordered twin drinks for the night, his being a cocktail, and mine being a non-alcoholic version of the same. Sine we were looking for something out of our norm, we went with those flavored using Watermelon " there are several of these available on the Nomad Lounge Menu.
Kirk ordered the 'Hightower Rocks' which is a combination of Casa Dragones Blanco Tequila, Watermelon, Sweet-and-Sour, and Lime Juice. The watermelon offered a sweet counterpoint to the bold and smokey flavor of the tequila. The 'Hightower Rocks' definitely packs a solid punch.
If Tequila isn't your thing, the menu offers the 'Jenn's Tattoo' cocktail which features Ketel One Vodka, Watermelon, Hibiscus, and Lime Juice. I ordered the non-alcoholic version of this, deemed the 'Hibiscus Henna' which has Watermelon, Hibiscus, Sprite, and Lime Juice. My mocktail was packed with watermelon flavor that was cut by the fizziness of the sprite.
The Nomad Lounge Patio is a beautiful setting, and comfortable place to relax at Disney's Animal Kingdom. The creative drink menu offers creative new ways to imbibe, and a respectable menu of noshes from the Tiffins Kitchen. If you're looking for a great place to get away from it all in the middle of a Theme Park, Nomad offers one of the best options in all of Walt Disney World.
Have you stopped by the Nomad Lounge? Let us know what you thought!
