29 days until we hit the Polynesian!! Upgrade question......

Hi All,

My husband and I are staying at the Polynesian Dec 3-6 for his 40th bday clapping ! We got a Garden View. We'd like to try for an upgrade when we get there (free or pay). Where should we upgrade to? Is there a particular Long House you like? Probably won't need a suite since it's just us.

On another note, we've already booked our airfare for April to bring the kids (9,6 and 2). My husband said after this trip we may never go back with the kids silly

Ha ha! I still maintain that I'm not taking my kids until they can pay for it themselves, but I doubt I'll stick to that! Wink

I haven't stayed at the Poly, so I can't make any recommendations other than: get a view of the castle and try to be close to the lobby/main pool! Does that help? mickey

The view of the castle would be awesome! I just don't know what building to ask for. I think I have the map. I'll check it out.

Hi Kris, well me and my wife scrappy have stayed at the Poly several times and it will always be our favorite, even though we are DVC members and our home resort is SSR. Now to answer you question: first if you want to know all about the Polynesian Resort go here Tikiman . I would recommend the Tuvalu Long house if you want a view of the Castle and want to see the fireworks from your room! Ask for second or third floor. Second floor rooms have no balcony due to a Polynesian superstition, third floor have balconies with unobstructed views of the entire lake from the wedding pavilion to the transportation center. The first floor rooms you can walk out onto a patio from your room, but there is no beach there, and there are some bushes. These rooms are also some of the oldest rooms, but we have never gotten a bad one. Here are some pictures of our room & view from my 50th B-day trip in June this year ("The best trip we ever had" Thank you dear!), it was 3rd floor dead center Magic Kingdom view.:

Here is a video.

All of these are from our balcony.

Now tell me that doesn't make you want to be there! I want want to be there now just from posting them gaah . Well I hope I helped with your decision, but it's ultimately up to you, but I think your hubby & you would love it there, just my opinion though. Anymore questions, just ask or PM me.

P.S. - this building does make you close to the main pool/main longhouse/and the boat dock to Magic Kingdom! Pretty much everything. God now I really want to be there! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!

We prefer the Tahiti building. It has a MK view. It has balconies. While it is farther from the Great Ceremonial House, it is a lot closer to the TTC. At the TTC you can catch the monorail to Epcot. Also, since it is closer to the TTC than to the GCH, it is quicker to walk to the ferry or the monorail to get transportation to the MK than it is to walk to the GCH to catch the monorail to the TTC.

We prefer taking the smaller boats to the Magic Kingdom from the Poly Dock rather then the Ferry or the Monorail. They are usually never crowded. Heck most times we are the only ones on the boat.

Kris, here are some views from a room we had at the Tahiti Longhouse. It was a Magic Kingdom view also, on the first floor.:

I concur! The shot of the pavilion is my favorite shot. I don't have my bearings...is that sunrise, and the Contempo pic is sunset?

I swear I'm gonna crash y'alls vacay one of these days! I'll bring the cocktails for the beach fireworks watching Smile

Sunsets over the Grand Floridian if you're looking from Top of the World, so yes, I think you're right. It's a sunrise shot where you see the Contemporary and Sunset where you see the Pavilion. I'd be hard pressed to say which is more beautiful though!

Ah, I had it backwards! That's so funny! I guess I never paid attention. When I'm in the parks, the sun is already up, and when I worked at the Contempo, "time to make the doughnuts" (and the mousse and the brownies and the birthday cakes) was WAY before sunrise Smile
