Very interesting! I visited WDW back in 1977, there were very few things to do outside of WDW/MK (just one park then). A few lounges, restaurants, and I think a water park, that was it (as far as I can recall 
).
We stayed in the park until they were ready to close 
There was also a Navy base close by, those squids sure knew how to party 
. But that's another story
