Add Ons @ Home or New Resort?

After your initial point purchase, have you purchased an add on? If so, did you buy it at your home resort or did you buy at a different resort? Why did you chose that, and would you do it that way again? Did you add on a smaller amount of points or buy another big amount?

My main contract is Animal Kingdom Lodge, but I have a 25pt add on at Grand Californian.

We have always just added on to our home resort. However when we called to add more during our November trip we were told it is now sold out and we had to wait for our sales rep to find resale points. No real reason that we have just added on to our home resort. We got what we wanted but our money is now being saved so if/when there is a Poly DVC we will be ready.

We're signing our first contract for our home resort tomorrow....but I've already told DH that if we ever purchase additional points we're not adding on but purchasing a small contract at another resort.

When we decide to add on it will be at our home resort. It will either be a smaller or equal amount of points. I just can't see us doing a split stay vacation. When we arrive I want to stay in one place for the whole duration. Plus I really love our home resort!

The issue that I've found I have with my contract split comes from the 7 vs 11 month booking window. Both my contracts have the same use year, however since I've got part of the points in Cali I find myself frequently having to borrow from the next year so that I can book everything at once and not have to hope to add on a night or two at the 7 month mark. It's not unmanageable, but I think it's bee a little annoying. We've thought of adding on another small contract at Grand Californian, but we'd still have to juggle points from different resorts to end up where we want to. I don't regret my small contract in California, but if we add on again it will probably be at AKV.

I think I will add a smaller contract at AKV, my home resort. I am watching now for one with my UY. Thus far I have been able to switch into another resort if desired. However, I have not totally ruled out BWV - I love that place.

I added on at my home resort (BCV), but then when I saw a real bargain at BWV, I bought there too. I much prefer BCV but I definitely can live with BWV.

One thing I would suggest is try to get the same use year. You could avoid complications when making a ressie using points from different contracts with different use years.
