Airplane Activities

For those of you who take long flights every once in a while, what are your tactics to:

1. Get through the flight without getting bored
2. Sleep on the plane!

Any ideas would be appreciated!

We purchase 1 or 2 game/puzzle books, a bunch of magazines, bring a portable DVD player, and have headsets for music. I have a hard time sleeping on planes, but Joe is usually asleep before the wheels leave the ground.

Portable DVD player! I haven't been on any long plane rides in awhile but they have been great in terms of long car rides!

Music. I'm gone just like that. And a book. Clearly I'm easily entertained Smile

A movie is the best way to pass the time, but smartphone works well too. I download RSS feeds and read them on the plane.

When you fly as far as UK - USA you get free movies and free wine. 9 hours = SORTED. wink

Back in the day when I used to travel over the pond a lot, I loved Virgin Atlantic's TV on the seat service. Nobody else had it at that time, so it was a real luxury! Plus, they showed episodes of Friends, which was awesome.

For me, it's all about the glossy magazines. I don't read them that much on a regular basis, so it's kind of a fun diversion to get a Travel and Leisure or a Conde Nast Traveler and flip through on a plane.

Hi Peg,

Most people know their gender without thinking or checking. Wink

I think Bella would be in trouble on a flight between USA and UK. Wink

The ipad is where it's at for trips. You just have to remember to download a couple of movies first. The battery life is amazing.

My boyfriend once "took advantage" of free wine on a plane to the point of where he got our entire row cut off because he's drank too much.

Well, the good news is that I can be fairly convincing with my sober routine. I mean, they don't have, like a "brig" on airplanes, right? (big fun, it would be Smile

I wonder why they give free wine on Trans Atlantic flights?? Is it because they take so long?

Yeah, I think so. It's not just trans-atlantic. When I've flown to other far destinations (e.g. Hong Kong) then they have given free wine too, so I think it's just the distance.

Never had free wine on any of my flights, plenty of good movies though and more to chose from if I wanted to pay extra.

Virgin tries to make their name on customer service, right? Maybe that's why they're dishing out the wine?

I thought they used to on Delta international flights. But that was a million years ago before all the goofy nickling/diming started. I must officially be old enough to remember the "good old days."

I have seen Virgin stuff in movies and they always look so cool! The one international flight I flew was from Paris to Atlanta..but I was 15..so I guess they wouldn't liquor me up back then.
