Are the new extended hours at Animal Kingdom temporary/seasonal?
I'm trying to plan my trip for mid-November and the hours posted for Animal Kindom show the park closing at 5pm every night...including Thanksgiving. Will the hours increase as we get closer to the date? I was hoping to take advantage of the new evening activities.

I am waiting on the same information. We will be going the second week of November and so far it shows an earlier closing. Waiting patiently... 
I'm going to assume that the times just haven't been updated yet. I've been watching the entertainment schedule for late September and its not showing things I was expecting either.
I checked earlier this week for late September and it had changed from closing at 5pm to 7:30pm. I was able to modify our dinner reservation to make it a little later (4pm to 5:30pm). Not sure if that will change again to even a later closing time.
For our first week of August, closing time is 11pm. I hope that is going to be the norm for now on. I want to get kicked out of that park late at night lol!!!! It won't happen next month with having to get up early for camp.

I'm hoping that late hours are the norm. It's my last night night and I'm hoping to spend it at AK.

Just did my fast passes today and nothing is showing up past five o' clock. I wanted to Fast Pass a nighttime Safari but there wasn't anything available and the Jungle Book night show was also unavailable for fast passes.

You are welcome according to the Disney Experience App the Nigh time Show is Under Construction the time I wanted during out stay in September 9-18th. So I am not sure what the heck that means it just opened. So maybe Rivers of Light will be open by then but they are unsure?
