I haven't been paying very close attention to the "Mom's Panel" thing. Have any of you guys? What exactly is it? It looks like they just answer questions online?

From what I've seen of it Cdub, it's pretty much a question and answer thing on-line and the answers I've seen are pretty generic. They dont usually get into a lot of specifics.
When I looked at it the other day, I had this thought..."Why is there just a 'Mom's Panel'? Don't other people go to Disney...without kids?"
This site, I think, does a real good job of answering more specific questions.
Life is what you make it...then there's Disney!!!

I agree with that. I wish they could get to more questions, though.
Also, I think there are a few "moms" who aren't moms at all. There are some dads, and at least one or two with no kids, so they can give that perspective...
When I first saw it, I figured Disney was just trying to enter the "forum/message board" space, and I still pretty much think that's the plan. They see that there's lots of need out there for promptly and correctly answered questions (heaven knows I've gotten some dud answers from their operators when I've called!)

By 'this site' Bali, I meant WDWFG...not the mom's panel...

Yeah we do a great job! The 'Grownups Panel'! Well not so much me...but some of the others...
They're actually saying now that you don't have to be a Mom to join the Mom's panel. (Of course, that then begs the question "Why call it the Mom's Panel then?") My guess is there are people right here on this board with more knowledge than some of the people on that panel. You should think about joining and sharing your wisdom.

I think there have been dads on the panel since the beginning. Not sure about anyone with no kids, though. I'll have to check bios... I've been wondering why they call it "moms," too

From what I've read I think the qualifications are kind of fuzzy. I would probably be a bad candidate because even though I probably know a good bit about planning there, I know NOTHING about going with kids. It may not be a requirement to have kids, but I imagine it's a plus.
So it's 2011 and the Mom's Panel Applications are open until the end of the week.
You don't have to be a "Mom" to apply, there have been lots of Disney Dads and Aunties on past panels as well.

Has anyone else applied? I sent mine in on Monday morning.
Good luck Kristen!
I used the Mom's panel in my early planning for this year's trip. I saw it was available when researching last year's but didn't think it would be beneficial to me since I'm not a mom. Then one day earlier this year while on the Disney site I saw one of the questions and was interested in the answer so I clicked on the link. I learned about the Disney Food Blog on the Mom's panel. From the DFB, I found WDWFG. I wouldn't have found you guys if it wasn't for them.
I did call them on an incorrectly answered question once. Someone wrote in because they were at the six month mark and couldn't make their ADRs online. The "mom" told her to call Disney instead. I couldn't believe this so call Disney expert told this woman to make a long distance call instead of telling her she couldn't make her ADRs for another two or three days (can't remember now) when she was at 180 days.

Good Luck!! I thought about it since I am actually a mom now--but like usual I forgot!! Oh well..maybe next time!

Good Luck, Kristen! I applied last year, but (obviously!) didn't make it. However, I met a lot of wonderful people through the process, and discovered the awesome online Disney community as a result! So while I didn't make it, I definitely feel like the panel impacted me positively.
This year, I feel like I'm far too busy to do a good job with it, so I passed on the application. But I'm cheering on friends and acquaintances who are passionate about making the magic for families from all over

This was my third year applying and I was much more zen about it than in previous years. That's code for I only freaked out for two days instead of for weeks! LoL!
That's so wise, I think. I thought, in passing, about applying, with a "what the heck? you aren't so emotionally invested and you know TONS more than last year" attitude, but then I read the questions. They gave me a headache lololol. So I decided to pass. I hope you make it though. Please let us know when you hear!
Oh my gosh I loved this year's questions! They were all about Disney this year, which I can talk about for ever. The past years I had to talk about myself, and that's so much harder for me to do. It's just a waiting game now. I will be sure to say something when I get my email, for better or worse
I found their site helpful at time but I find they have to give the answers Disney wants....I like asking you guys better!

I always felt pretty much the same every time I read the moms panels, that their answers are what Disney would want them to say, which there is nothing wrong with that. You can get more detailed answers else where at times. But the moms panel does do a very good job!
