Anyone done WDW solo?

I would love to hear from anyone who has done WDW solo.. Their thoughts on where to stay, how long to stay and what their trip was like!

I generally spend a few days solo at WDW. My DW is a teacher so she can't always go for an entire week. I love going solo simply because I can do whatever I want whenever I want...If I want to go to 4 parks in one day then I can, if I want to sit in a bar and chitchat with people then I will...single rider lines can be your best bet throughout the world

Hi! I was lucky enough to work in Epcot for a year and my days off were generally spent doing the parks on my own!! Loved it! As people before me have said - it's great to do your own thing!! Ride what you want, when and however many times you fancy... eat whatever and wherever... talk to people in front and behind in the lines...

I also did the other 4 Disney Parks on my own too...!!! Smile

I did WDW alone a couple of years ago. I was in Orlando with my sister and her family, but they didn't stay as long as I did and they spent all their time at the Universal parks. I spent two days at Universal with them and the rest of my time touring WDW solo. I missed my hubby, who had to stay home on business, but in some ways touring the parks alone was more fun because I could do whatever I wanted whenever I wanted.

I've done Disney solo before and am doing it again in Oct (and possibly a few more times next year, since I'll be an AP holder!). Although I love Disney with friends and family, there's something relaxing about doing what you want when you want. As far as where to eat, I've found that if you want to make ADRs, it's fairly easy to get them for 1 person (I got a BOG reservation with NO trouble at all - no doubt b/c I'm just a party of one). If you want to be social, I've also eat at the Biergarten and sat with other people, just chatted with them. Frequently when I travel solo I'll bring a book with me to read while I eat, but at Disney, there's some GOOD people watching to be had.

As far as where to stay, I recommend staying on property. With the Disney transportation, it's really easy to get around and I've always felt safe as a single female (although I've traveled solo all over the world, so I may not be the best yard stick to measure by). No worries about walking out in a dark parking lot to find your car after a long day at the parks and you are dropped off practically at your front door (front door of the lobby anyway!). For me, traveling solo, the biggest deciding factor on where to stay is cost. The value are nice b/c it's easier on the wallet, but if you can get a good deal on moderates, that's a good way to go too. Of course, this may not be a concern for you!! I have also found that renting DVC points can make traveling more economical.

As far as how long to stay, for me, that's also not decided by whether I'm going solo (except again, funding the hotel room all by myself). I do find it's easier to see the things I want to see when I'm by myself b/c I don't have to worry about what other people want to do (selfish sounding, I know). So it's easier to bounce in and out of the parks and do what I want. I say stay as long as you like. Even if you're not in a park every day, you can lounge around the pools and relax a bit. I would say, especially if it's your first trip to the World, you should plan at least a day a park to see "it all" - and even then you won't really see it all! There will be stuff to see for future trips!

DisneyDoc's trip report is awesome and will give you some good ideas on things to do solo. When are you going?? I'm willing to bet someone from here is probably going as well, so maybe you won't be "solo" for the entire trip!! wink

There are several ways to rent DVC points. I usually send folks to this point broker http://www.dvcrequest.com/ what he does is facilitate rentals between DVC members and folks looking to rent points. You can also rent directly from a member who has extra points available. Just so you know however - there are not currently any DVC rooms at the Polynesian. mickey

Good evening!

I have been solo to WDW seven times (13-20 Oct 2000 All Star Sports; 3-14 December 2003 All Star Music; 8-15 December 2004 POFQ; 30 November to 8 December 2005 Wilderness Lodge; 10-16 May 2006 Pop Century; 3-7 December 2006 DCL Wonder; 7-12 December 2006 Beach Club; 2-6 December 2007 DCL Wonder; 6-11 December 2007 All Star Movies; 11-16 December 2007 AKL), because I believe that if I waited for someone to go with me I would never leave home. Not always budget conscious, by staying in a different on-property resort (for I do not drive) each trip I got a slightly different perspective on each vacay.

That's where I rented mine. I know others have used private sales so you may get some other options. It's been super easy to do. Let me know if you have specific questions.

Yes. I use a private owner that own a Disney Travel business. She only charges $12 per point, while David's charges $14. I think renting points is cheaper if you want to stay deluxe, but not pay the deluxe price. We enjoyed our Boardwalk stay in May and paid about the same price as a moderate would've cost through Disney.

Never been to WDW solo before, but would totally go if I could!

Take advantage of single rider lines. Coaster, Test Track and Everest have single rider lines. Very often at Toy Story once at the merge, where the CM asks how many, they have often sent me through the blue gate to bypass at least 25-30 people and had a minimum wait to board. Many times at Tower they have asked for a single rider and I got bypass like 30 other people so they could fill the elevator.
