Anyone getting the iPhone 5?

Jess is at Verizon right now preordering ours. Were switching to Verizon from ATT because my parents and Jess and I are going to share the 20 gig Data plan thing. Our bill will be reduced by 30 bucks, and will have better 4G coverage. Were eligible, so thats why were getting it. Going from the iPhone 4 to the iPhone 5.

I will get one, probably not for another six months or so though. I'm excited about the better camera and stronger CPU. I'm a little indifferent about the size change, and I HATE that there's a new connector.

I hate the new connector too... but I'm surprised it took them THIS long to make a new one. I was hoping for something like what the MacBooks have for power and such for the iPhone. The whole magnetic thing.

Im looking forward to the 4G... heh. Ever since I got a text 3 months ago from ATT saying even though I had an unlimited plan... I was being throttled at 3 gigs... since then my internet hasn't been the same. And that was just with 3G.... can't wait to abuse 20 gigs 4G from Verizon... lol

pre-ordered it from the apple store today. Can't wait! The bigger screen is awesome for watching HD. Im a little indifferent about the connector... by X-Mas everything will be that size (accessories). It was bound to happen we just have to go with the flow.

I don't have one, but my brother is excited for the new earbuds. I personally couldn't stand the old ones.

I have to wait until March 1st, but I will definitely be getting it. I seem to be skipping models (3G, 4, 5), so I'm looking forward to having Siri, a better camera and the bigger screen.

The new connector was going to happen sooner or later, but yeah it would have been nice to see a Magsafe adapter like on the MacBook Pro (has been a life-saver numerous times).

Fortunately, with the upgrade to the 5, I still get to keep my unlimited data plan since I was grandfathered in when they changed the plans. I'd really hate to have to shop around to different carriers to find the best rate plan/coverage areas. I've never had a problem with AT&T's coverage (probably helps that I'm 10 minutes from Philadelphia) and have been with them since 2001.

Yeah... Your progression is the same as mine. I started with the original, then got the 3G, then 4, now 5. I go every two years with the exception of the original going to the 3G because I got the original refurbished off contract which was awesome. I would had stayed with ATT if it wasnt for the $150 20 gig Data share from Verizon. My parents hardly use their data.... Jess uses maybe a gig. Me... im a data hog! So we switched. Now we will be able to FaceTime over network... lol

Mase, I'm glad to hear you are an expert. I may need your help! My new job just gave me a Macbook, they're giving me an iPhone 5 as soon as it is available. I've always been a PC girl so its going to be an adjustment, but one I'm happy to make!

My husband and I preordered ours this morning from AT&T...somehow I got grandfathered in to my husband's original unlimited data package at the same $30 price I was paying for mine (which was not unlimited). I can't wait for the 5 to get here next friday. I upgraded myself to the MacBook Pro two weeks ago from the white MacBook from 2009...lol.

Tempted as my faithful 3GS is finally kicking the bucket...but I think I'm going to go with the 4S, it does everything I need it to do, I love the look and the size and can get a really kick ass plan...I'm sold. I have a habit of getting the older models when the new comes out though, I did the same with my 3GS but never regretted it!

DW & I will be getting ours next week. We both have the iPhone 4. I'm going with the 32GB she's staying with the 16. We are also leaving AT&T and moving to Verizon. I'm so excited for this phone clapping yay Next year for my 45th I'm buying a MacBook. I'm not surprised with the lightening. It's been well overdue. We have every version of the iPhone except the 4s. I'm also picking up Apple TV soon and will pair down my satellite bill.

Yeah... I know a bit... Lol. Just make use of the cloud. The cloud is what makes the iPhone, and iPad so great. If ya have any questions, or anyone period has a question... Don't be afraid to ask. Just hit me up.

Just watch yourselves. If I remember right... Even though your unlimited... You will get throttled at 5 gigs. So just be careful. I know last night I used. Almost a half a gig. Kids were watching thevdisney app in hd. So it adds up.

Nothing wrong with the 4s at all. The 5 and 4s are very similar. Which is why the 5 is getting so much heat.

Every iPhone gets shredded and I honestly make nothing of it. They finally took a huge step up to make a stronger body, bigger with a better screen, and they improved Siri. I'm really excited for this phone.

My last two phones were Android and now I am going to iPhone 5 for Christmas. My plan is to ask for all my accessories and iTunes cards while I can. Then in January I get my car, so I'll just be asking for money to spend on my car!

Not having any Apple accessories myself, the new cord is awesome. Much better than that old fat thing they used to have. The iPhone is so popular among everyone that accesories are everywhere (including Disney) and that's a huge plus for me. Unless I go online, I can't find accessories like cases for my android. I also love iMessage and the processing speed of the Apple phones over Android. Just with using my friend's iPhone, it's obvious that the iPhone is just a faster, more simple phone. Again, I'm excited and will be getting it unless a new Droid with great battery on Sprint is released.

If your looking to stay with Android. Samsung Galaxy 3 is an AMAZING phone. If it wasnt for the fact I have spent 5 years on buying apps for iOS... I would probably switch to it, even though the iPhone 5 barely has a faster bench mark than it. But if your wanting on the Apple Train. Now is as good time as ever, because more than likely... the iPhone 5s will probably be a slight upgrade. Then following year with the iPhone 6... should be like this... a huge upgrade. But yeah... I was about to get the Galaxy 3 to be honest. My friends have it, and I love the screen it has. Its much nicer than the iPhone 5. Bigger. But I wont get my apps......... So until I cant stand the iPhone or there is truly a much better phone on the market... I'm with Apple... lol

Hey Kris1971-

I've been using Macs for years, and we officially have an "Apple" house, so if you need any help/tips/hints, feel free to drop me a line! I am the resident Mac help desk for our circle of friends... just had another one join the club last week!

It will certainly take some getting used to, but the more you use it and "play around" with it, the more you'll see how user-friendly, smooth and functional it is.

Good luck!

Mase - I had a middle of the road Android, and the only thing that is moving me to Apple is the sleekness of the OS. Everything is so quick, sharp, and simple. So much more so than the Android. If a phone (beside the Razor MAxx) with amazing battery life comes out, I'm going for that. That's my top priority, but I don't want a huge, bulky, extended battery. I want a normal battery like the Maxx. Neither the Galaxy or the iPhone have awesome battery life. My last Android was AWFUL. It drained so quick even when I hardly even used it, it was ridiculous. It got to the point where I have to turn everything (including my mobile network) off in school so I can only receive texts.

The Galaxy is supposed to have close to double the life of the iPhone 5 in standby. 790 hours if I remember right. Its the one thing that bench marked better. And if your looking for the iPhone 5 to get you through the day with moderate to heavy use... better grab a USB Battery for it.

A USB Battery? What would that be? And I did not know that about the GIII vs the iPhone in battery life. I was going to check it out here soon. Being on Android I do already have a lot of music and apps on there..hmm..

Edit: Is this the USB BAttery? http://www.amazon.com/iLuv-Portable-Rechargeable-Battery-iPhone/dp/B003BVXBMO
Here's another that looks reliable http://www.amazon.com/Anker%C2%AE-10000mAh-External-Battery-Android/dp/B005NGKR54/ref=cm_cr_pr_sims_t

GIII has bigger battery (Sprint has it at 9h vs 8h for new iPhone), much larger display, and again, my apps are there. I also believe that the camera is better on GIII right? Anything else? It's really only three things for Apple: more accesories, more common, more simplistic as a whole.

Yeah... people are getting way over 12 hours of use, which is great for a phone with the guts it has. One review had it go on talk non stop on LTE and it lasted close to 6 hours. Now your probably thinking thats not much, but were talking turned on... and using its antenna non stop. The Maxx your talking about beat it with 8 hours and that has the best battery around. The iPhone will probably land in the 4-5 mark.

http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/article/426662/closer_look_samsung_galaxy_iii_battery_life/

Like I said... if it wasnt for the 5 years of Apps... I would had gone to this phone hands down. NFC tech. Close to a 5 inch screen. Better res than the iPhone 5. But the iPhone 5 beats it in bench mark tests. So its really hard to say which one to go for... both are incredible phones.

As for the USB Battery... this is what I use when I go to Disney and cant plug in during the day because my iPhone 4 wouldnt last the whole day... lol

http://www.duracell.com/en-US/product/instant-usb-charger.jspx

But mine has a 2500 battery in it.

I would say the camera is probably the same on both to be honest... but have heard that the 4s was the best phone camera, and the 5 is better... so I would probably say the 5 is better.

I might have to reconsider after your advice. Boy this will be tough. I also hate that the iPhone is upgraded so often..With the GIII I feel like I will be set for a while. I feel like it will take a while to beat that phone, unlike the last phone I got that was not top of the market.

Well... The rumor is Samsung may release an hd version of the galaxy 3 in January.... But it's a very cloudy rumor. But usually... If you buy a phone in a two month span and a new version pops up... You can switch to it for a fee or free. Just depends.

With some research, and some hands-on I have seen, and you convincing me..I'm leaning back to Android. We'll see. I have actually done that before..traded my phone in about a month later and got anew one, which is always good.

Yep, my brother loves his Galaxy. It currently runs on Ice Cream Sandwich, but Jelly Bean is coming out sometime very soon, so I'm sure he'll upgrade the system.
