Are You Picky About Water?

So most people seem to agree with me that Disney World's water is pretty awful tasting. Does it bother you? Do you bring some water with you?

We always go to Costco first thing and buy one or 2 24 packs of water.

We try to get some water ASAP, although sometimes we wind up buying bottles from the shops in the resorts.

We always drink bottled water when away from home, even in places where the tap water would be safe to drink.

HA - it's safe, but it's not just Disney - it's FL. The water is crummy-tasting everywhere down here. But believe it or not, using a Brita filter (or equivalent) renders it just fine-tasting...in case you'd rather pack the filter pitcher rather than using up all those bottles of water Smile

Camelbak filled at a water fountain is lovely

We don't notice much of a difference because South Carolina is pretty much the same as Florida...but generally we don't drink much unfiltered tap water anyway.

I am relatively picky. I lOVE Ohio tap water, hate NJ. Liked Long Island, think Florida is okay (better than our house at least!). In Disney, I try to have water bottles or drink things other than water

I'm leary and skeptical given this and the similar pic on the welcome page.

Good for admin!

Regarding water. . .yes, I find it has an algae-like taste to it. I drink it but put it into a bottle and add a flavoured powder to it (i.e. crystal lite or nestea powders).

Is that what that taste is? I always think it's chlorine, but I'm never sure.

I'm not sure. I think my water in Ontario tastes chlorinated but it tastes more "earthy" in Florida.

Or maybe it's just mineral-y. The water in FL is notoriously hard. I don't know - but it's not good. (Bella, you're right. When we traveled south for vacay every year when I was growing up, we took joy in the point where the water started tasting "vacationy." Always around SC Smile

Hi,

I always thought that FL water tastes "skunky" because the whole state's made of limestone.

That may be...and here's a tip for all of you who aspire to camp in the Keys. Take railroad spikes, because those cute little plastic and metal tent spike jobbies that come with your Wal Mart tent? Don't so much go through fossilized coral. (In other words, assuming that Florida is made of sand = big mistake.)

I always found the Magic Kingdom water to be the worst tasting - I think I've actually been okay with water fountains at the other parks. I go to the counter service locations and ask for water, sometimes. On my last trip I had a kitchen, and froze mostly-full bottles of water to have cold water at hand. But, not all of Florida water is bad! Yes, MK water is gross, and the water at my dad's (in South FL) smells like sulpher, but when I grew up in Fl (central gulf coast) our water was great. I wish the water here in GA was as good.

Suz, I think you're right about MK water.

Jess, what do you drink instead of water?

She drinks a lot of pop... lol

Me... I drink a lot of water, and cant stand the water that is at the fountains there. We usually buy water and put it in our suitcase and take that since we have a refrigerator in our room, and ill throw a couple in my bookbag.

Actually, Daytona Beach municipal water was just judged the best in a competition (they say best in the world, but that's a bit grandiose) - proof that not all FL is bad Smile

Hey, I was thinking of this thread. My mom recently gave me one of those Brita filtered water bottles - the 20 oz, individual size - perfect for taking with around town, a workout, or a day at WDW. I think this is a great idea for those of us who prefer water in the parks, but don't get excited about Florida tap water. Give it a try. I'm loving mine.

I am not as picky as my husband about the water. However as soon as we cross the boarder we pick up a case or two of the bottled stuff. Sometimes we refill at the water fountains at the park if we have to and what a great idea to use those little packets of flavour. I have noticed in some parks an odour of sulfur in the bathrooms and it makes me gag which in turn tends to turn me off the drinking water. It is hard to drink and think about what you just smelled ewwwwwww yuck! biggrin

I don't care for tap water at home, Florida's isn't quite as bad to me. Mostly though, we go though a ton of Dasani.

If bottled water is your staple, try these filter bottles. I know I sound like I'm being paid - I'm not - but seriously, it's so liberating to be able to fill a bottle up anywhere, and the water is filtered. And the filters have a pretty good life. Especially if they're a gift, I have to believe that they save a ton of money, not to mention you aren't throwing away plastic bottles.

I plan on buying lots of bottled water for us! And yes I am super picky about my water... There are even certain bottled waters I wont drink because they dont taste right to me.
