Aulani Plans Resort Expansion

It's hard to believe but the incredible popularity of the new Disney Resort in Hawaii has already brought the need for expansion plans, and they'll be beginning right away! I think that makes me want to take a trip out there to visit even more than ever before. What about you? Is there some Aloha in your future?

From the Disney Parks Blog:

"As a result of all the excitement about Aulani and its amenities, we're already planning an expansion of the resort. New water features will be added to the Waikolohe Valley pool area, along with additional deck space for sunbathing and relaxing. Two new quick-service food locations also will be part of the enhancements, and the popular "Starlit Hui" show will move to a larger lawn so that even more guests can enjoy the performance.

Work on all this is scheduled to begin in September. Keep an eye on the Disney Parks Blog for regular updates on plans and progress."

I think they have to. With a resort like that... I think they are trying to keep people there, and not really go out... or at least spend a bulk of there time there. So I think they have to do this as quick as possible to be honest.

I thought about going there but I am one of those people who like going to different beaches. I had a lot of fun in Kona. We went over the island though.

More details released on the Disney Parks Blog about what the Aulani expansion will include. These new pool features sound so beautiful to me!

The hotel will be old and in need of a refurbish by the time I get out there. sarcastic If I skipped a year at WDW I could do it muchlove I would really like to go though.

It's definitely in our future! We're planning on going for our 25th wedding anniversary next July. I can't wait to go. I went to Hawaii waaaaay back in 1977 and loved it. I can't wait to go back Disney style! Alooooooooooooha!

They've posted some more about their plans for expansion.

To be honest, this does raise some concerns about our trip in March 2013. We haven't booked it yet, but will do so within the next month. This is probably our one and only trip to Hawaii.

I don't really care for WDW resorts that are in the midst of updates/expansions/refurbs. We were thinking of trying POR on our last trip but we knew there were refurbs going on and that just scared me back to POFQ. I just know I will be the guest most inconvenienced.

This was in their FAQ section on the expansion:

Quote:
Q. Will the work be noisy?

Between the hours of 9:00 and 5:00 on weekdays and some weekends, you may hear and/or see the work taking place during your visit. This may include construction equipment, vehicles, and workers in the various affected areas of the Resort. We appreciate your patience and understanding. Please know that we are making every effort to ensure your comfort and enjoyment while Aulani undergoes expansion.

It's a pricey resort, so I think my expectations are pretty high. I'd hate to be disappointed because of construction and updating.

Anyone have any thoughts? If you've been there, would you think it's worth the price? Airfare for 1 is less than the price of 1 night eek

Nothing like a little construction noise to ruin a trip. This is a tough call, Jeff. Its like you said, its an expensive trip, so you want it to be perfect. Of course, Disney is pretty good about taking care of their guests through construction. Hmmm.....I don't know what to tell you.

If I were pinning this down as my one and only trip to Hawaii, I would postpone it because of the construction. As far as I know, the construction is going on in fairly public areas, in fact, it's the pool, beach, and lawn areas. That means (to me at least) not only will it be in the way, but it's going to obstruct the view of what should be the most beautiful places, and it would lessen my overall enjoyment.

My personal opinion is that if you're shelling out that much cash, on a trip that you may never do again, it needs to be super magical. If you're having doubts, you may want to consider postponing until after the construction is finished. I would hate for you to remember your one trip to Hawaii with the first thought being "... Well, the hotel was under construction ..."

Thanks Kristen. I think you summed up exactly what was in my head.

So now were thinking of switching our plans and maybe go to DL in March and Hawaii in September for my birthday.

Jeff I agree with Kristen. I have been to Hawaii and you want to have wonderful memories of this most beautiful island paradise. Go for your birthday you will be doubly blessed.
