Avatar coming to Disney?

Stumbled across this on YouTube. Maybe it has been discussed here already, but I don't remember.

Thoughts?

In case you did not watch, there is talk of bringing Avatar to Animal Kingdom.

It will be great once they get it going. I've heard the dragon that appeared last year will be used in avatar. Animal kingdom is nice but it is still a half day park for us. This might help keep us there a few more hours.

I've read other post online and lots of folks saying it belongs in Universal and it not Disney-ish! lol

Do you have any idea when that video was taken? It's been more almost a year since I've heard anything new and those were unconfirmed "leaked" blueprints. There were some big problems at the begining with James Cameron and the Imagineers not seeing eye to eye. It's been two years since I've heard anything official from Disney. Originally construction was supposed to begin in 2013 with completion in 2016-17.

Honestly - I was sort of hoping that the entire thing was falling apart.

According to the information on the video (if you click on the i in the upper right hand corner), this was from Dec. 2012.

Thanks JoAnn! That would have been shortly after the blueprints were leaked.

Where did you hear this? I heard it was just used for that event, and that is that.

CarlsbadDrew I think? He had some "insider" information though the company that he works with that was somehow involved.

((I could be completely misremembering though))

They are shutting down Camp Minnie-Mickey. Minnie and Mickey have been moved out, Festival of the Lion King is going to be moved soon as well.

Why? What will be replacing it?

Oh and I thought of another CM question for ya! Do they really have cameras on the inside of mission space? As in, cameras in each ride car to watch guests if they pass out or get sick? Just wondering!

Hey Eeyore, I know your question is directed at Mandy, but having taken a few behind the scenes tours, this topic came up a few times. Indeed, there are cameras EVERYWHERE at Disney World. Even the darkest rides like ToT are monitored constantly with night vision cameras. We were told that apart from the bathrooms and hotel rooms, you're more than likely on a camera.

There's a YouTube video of some kids goofing around on ToT and removing their seat belts. This allowed them to literally float up to the ceiling of the cab. A stupid thing to do! However, this was noticed and the ride was stopped. The cab was lowered slowly to the ground and an announcement was made stating that those that were not part of this stunt were allowed to ride another cycle through.

Funny! I did actually see that on YouTube! Those idiots filmed themselves doing that. I was just wondering about Mission Space and if someone looked like they passed out, if they would actually stop the ride or not?

I think that ride in particular would be watched very closely and would shut down at the first sign of trouble. If someone looked like they had passed out, I can't imagine they would keep it going.

Yea, I too, think I am going to die being strapped in! I remember when it used to be the lap bar that went across the row and I could at least hunker down and hold on for dear life. The first time I rode with the seat belt was scary. I'm like, really? I tiny little hand bar to hold? haha

I make no bones about the fact that ToT is the only ride in all of WDW that makes me scream like a total sissy Mary la la. That video....young boys....ugh. waiting

And I hope Avatar land dies a quick death so we can all breathe a sigh of relief and move on!

I so agree with you. I didn't like the movie and I don't feel it belongs anywhere in Disney!

I agree with you both about Avatar. I don't see any bit of Disney in it at all.

Plus I already feel like it's been too long since the movie came out and they haven't even started construction yet! A few years from now when it becomes a reality and open, the target audience is going to barely even remember what Avatar is!

I really don't think that this is going away. There is a fairly decent fan community for Avatar and you still see Navi walking around ComicCons. It's a thing - it's moving forward - and we're going to have to deal with it whether we like it or not. I am in the NOT category. At least the message of conservation fits in with the overall theme of Animal Kingdom, that's really all I've got as to why it would go there though.

Last week James Cameron announced not just one - but THREE sequels with the first coming out in late 2016. That dovetails in nicely with the time that Disney would need to construct the new area, they will cross promote each other and the fans of Avatar will go crazy - hopefully assimilating them into the fold of Disney vacationers.

I remember when the announcement was made they mentioned two sequels. I didn't hear they added a third.

Oh snap! I just realized this... I could get away without the belt then!

Camp Minnie-Mickey was a temp fix for AK until they could build something else. It was supposed to be Beastly Kingdom hence the Dragon in the logo for AK. Now it will be transformed into Pandora in the world of Avatar. Festival of the Lion King is moving to Africa.

Fun fact: Festival of the Lion King was only supposed to be temporary but since guests love it so much, they decided to keep it.

No clue about Mission Space.

I wish they'd have Australia or New Zealand in AK. That seems to fit in more than "Avatarland". Especially with all the unique animals from there.

I agree and wish they wouldnt do Avatar land. I just dont think it fits into "Disney". It would deff work into DAK, but I just dont see it being Disney. There are plenty of other things they could do....

Does anyone have any ideas for what they could use the land space for? Figured this would be a cool topic Smile

I guess as long as it has more Roller Coasters, any theme would work. I think everyone goes to DAK for Everest and Dinosaur and thats really it. Once you've been there more than once, it gets boring.
