I really liked the room we got at POFQ a few years ago. Joe scored us a corner room, top level, with a king bed. It was super quiet, and we had a beautiful view overlooking the Sassagoula River.

We never got an "Upgrade", but I think the best rooms we ever had so far were a MK view at the Poly , the beach was 20 steps off our patio & we could watch wishes while sitting on our balcony and having some wine. Also pool and DTD view in SSR.

We have never gotten an upgrade either, but the best room we have ever had was the DVC studio we were assigned at AKL Jambo House. It was on the fifth floor, in the lobby, directly above the check in desk, You could just open the room door, and look down over the lobby. The view from the balcony was just as good, and actually even better looking out over the Sunset Savana with a fantastic view of all the Zebra's, Giraffe's, Ostrich's, and other animals on the Savana, and Kidani Village buildings in the background. At first we thought that being situated directly in the lobby would be very noisy but it was not at all. Plus it was easy to get to the buses, QS restaurant, pool etc..

Jeff -- That's a pretty view! Great picture.
MrHub -- Are you guys staying MK view on your next poly trip?
VL -- We've found the noise to be pretty bad at the lower levels around the lobby, do you think it was the fact that you were on the fifth floor?

Yes I think you hit the nail right on the head. I think the vastness of the lobby and being five stories high the sound was muffled. The only noise we heard was the nightly children's parade around the lobby where cast members pass out drums and other various noise makers to the kids gathered in the lobby and cast members lead them around chanting "AFRICA" "AFRICA" "AFRICA" but that was rather cute and not irritating and only lasted about ten minutes. I'm sure you know what I am talking about if you were ever in the lobby around 8PM. laugh

For our honeymoon we booked a standard (a la parking lot view) room at AKL. When we got there we were upgraded to a Savanna room that overlooked the main lobby..it was two floors above Boma and the smells smacked you in the face the second you hit the door. It was amazing..best..room..ever!

We were also upgraded to a Preferred Room at ASMo on our first trip..back then, as two broke college kids, we thought that was AWESOME.

Wow, Jeff, that Sassagoula view is gorgeous!

I think one of my favorite rooms was at Coronado Springs in the cabanas -- right by the pool and hammocks!

Wow, these upgrades you've all had are incredible! (Especially Bella's Savannah view at AKL!!)

I was upgraded from a standard not-much-of-a-view room at POFQ to a king bed 2nd floor pool view at POR. Best move ever!

That's a good question. . .
I would think they happen more in the off seasons as opposed to the peak seasons. My upgrade was in late May.

What season did everyone else receive their upgrades?

(Amazing pics PsychoAlice!!)

We were so grateful! I think that us being honeymooners had a lot to do with it..now that I think about it we actually had a big mix up when we checked in that may of helped as well. They had us booked at POR but all our confirmations (and our bill) said AKL..it was handled pretty quick and simple though.

We were upgraded at the GF last February into a club room - beautiful room, amazing club perks in the lobby. But for the life of me I can't remember what our view was. The pool, I'm thinking. It was an incredible experience, though.

Just called disney to make my THIRD room request...I felt pretty guilty, especially as I spoke to a woman who had put one of my requests through before! It's just my excitement though - I won't care about our room once we're there!

Do you guys call them up to make room requests/check for upgrades etc a lot then?

We didn't at all..it was a happy surprise. Now that I come to think of it, there was a little mix up, and they said they were upgrading because of that. But seriously...I wasn't going to tell them this! - but the mix up didn't warrant an upgrade.

Just found these pics on my phone of that trip! This was our view, and the amenity that was awaiting us for Mom's 60th bday!

We'll usually request a King Bed when we make the reservation. Whatever else we want we just request when we get there.

Hi,

Because my travel agent knows about my cerebral palsy (and now so does everyone here! Laughing out loud), I got upgraded from a standard to a courtyard-view, handicapped-accessible room at the Wilderness Lodge in 2005 (room 1132 with a king bed, near the pool).

How far in advance can you make room requests and who do you call the resort you are staying at or the main line

Hi MrsMandyKay! Welcome to WDWFG!!

You can make requests for a room as soon as you book the room. Call the Disney resort reservations line at 407-WDW-Disney and note your reservation number, then ask them to put any requests on the room reservation.

About five days before you check-in, contact the resort hotel (some say to do this via fax, some say to call the resort front desk directly) to confirm that your requests are in their system as well (reservations get transferred over to the hotel directly about 5 days before arrival).

We almost always stay at Shade of Green the military resort. The rooms are really large and spacious and the price is right. Usually about the same or a little less than a moderate resort. They do offer a bus but we usually rent a car for convenience.

The best room we ever had there was this past year for our 25th wedding anniversary. We got a room overlooking the Golf Course during the Children's Miracle Network Classic. We could sit on our balcony and watch the golfers come and go. Really cool.

That sounds great. I'd think that resort would have lots of nice views of the golf course. Does it have any other good views?

Mac, those sunrise pics are stunning! The Grand Floridian looks especially beautiful!

Thanks for sharing about Shades of Green, Karen. I've always wondered about that resort. I knew the prices were great for military families. I have friends who stay at the Hale Koa in Hawaii, which is, I guess, a similar military property. Do you have pics of the room or the pool or views that you can share?

Thanks Lizzie

It was a they say, Magical!

My wife stayed awake most of the night as the castle stayed lit until daybreak (and you can see it from the bed if you have the correct facing room) and we sat out early and watched the sun come up and cast glorious colours across the lake and the park.

Wow! Mac I am not sure I would do anything all night but look at the castle. Did you leave the blinds open and just lay in bed and stare??
