Bringing Your Own Adult Drink With You To Your Resort..

Hi Folks....Now flying in from the UK we always bring a bottle from the airport duty free and this year I was hoping to bring a couple of bottles of champagne..( celebrations for our anniversary and my DS birthday ) Now I know he's going to be 17 which is under the legal age,but he does like a glass of bubbly at home, and I mean one glass, ...He has no interest in any alcohol drink when we have a Disney party..In fact he hates the smell of beer and drinks Irn Bru at 2 litres a day..I would like to give him a small glass of bubbly in our resort room on his birthday night when we arrive back from dinner...Am I taking a risk in treating him to this in our room, or should it be alright...Trust me..It would be one small glass of bubbly in or room..Your thoughts are appreciated on this...

Well I don't see anything wrong with him having 1 glass of bubbly (small amount) in your room for his birthday and not going anywhere after..meaning not leaving the room. When my kids we young (about that age) they would have a little bit of wine or beer on holidays...and for New Years Eve they always had a little champagne. And am with your DS as I can't stand the smell of beer so I don't go near that stuff.

It's a very small chance, but whenever you give alcohol to a minor, you expose yourself to legal issues if, God forbid anything goes wrong. A taste is fine, but any amount that could impair runs a risk, however small that risk may be.

As a parent, you do legally have the right to give your child a drink of alcohol in your place of residence, without any interference with the law, at least in the states, and as long as they are not leaving said house to do other things. Since you are staying in a temporary residence, as long as it's ONE drink or you are not planning on his drinking the bottle and then leaving the resort to party hardy on his own, you are within your rights as a parent. Trust me, after many years of teaching high school students AND working as a bartender thru college, I learned all the fine lines (actually so did all the kids).
silly

I would hate to give my child a drink and then he falls down the stairs and is crippled. Was it the drink- probably not. But who needs that doubt? What is the upside?

While this is true.. That law only applies in a residence/location that doesn't serve alcohol, since most (all?) Disney resorts serve alcohol somewhere on the premises, it would technically be illegal. On that note, you're on vacation! And as long as he's in the hotel room you will be fine.

This law varies state by state and Florida is actually quite strict on this issue. Also, Disney may have their own set of rules or "Disney laws" regarding this, since it isn't a federal law and it varies state by state.

King, if you want alcohol of any kind to be part of his birthday celebration when you are here in florida, I would keep that information completely between you and your family.

Walt Disney World for Grown-ups does not suggest or endorse under-age drinking in any shape, form, or manner. The legal drinking age in the State of Florida is 21.

That being said, if you really want my personal opinion, PM me and I'll give you my personal email and we'll chat.
