Carousel of Progress

What's your opinion of the Carousel of Progress? I keep worrying that it's going to get the axe one day despite being such a classic. It's not terribly kid-friendly and it takes up a lot of space in Futureworld. How often do you guys visit it? Would you be sad if it got replaced?

We visit it on every trip and yes I would be quite sad and disappointed if it were to be replaced. It is as you said such a classic.

We visit on most trips. It pulls in a lot of people when the park is busy and doesn't need many cast members to operate, so I suspect it will be around for a while yet.

That's a good point. It does soak up a lot of guests. Although it's quite long too, so I wonder how it compares to something like Splash Mountain.

Do you know - my daughter LOVES it. She has since she was 3. Maybe we need to expose more kids to it...we might be surprised. Now, the Hall of Presidents...her little voice is STILL echoing in my head: "Mommy, this is BORING."

Hi,

I enjoy Carousel of Progress. I last went on it on either my last trip or the trip before, and it is a classic. But the ride is almost as old as I am (it debuted at the NY World's Fair in 1964), and Disney markets it as "WALT DISNEY'S Carousel of Progress" to emphasize that it's a relic of Disney's past.

We go every trip. I know it's sort of blasphemous to say so, but the last stage of it should be updated. I'm fine with the rest, but with Walt's philosophy of always moving forward, I think keeping the outdated vision of the future is unnecessary....

That's always the problem with predicting the future. Where's my flying car?!?!?

Seriously, though, where ARE our flying cars? We have handheld devices that run our lives, we have the ability to video chat (mobile now!), devices that make it nearly impossible to get lost, and even cars that can drive themselves (friends were telling me something about the Google car...?). Where ARE our flying cars???

I have a pretty high fondness for the Carousel, however I'd say we ride it 1 in 3 trips tops.

I looove COP. If it went away I would would cry at the alter of COP much like I cry at the alter of WWTMAMPI..although I feel like I may have more people support me if COP went away.

It's one of my favourites! I have a mug from one of the gift shops with COP song lyrics on it. I'm on that ride at least once per trip, often two or three times. I like the original ending but maybe the Virtual Reality hardware could be updated to something more futuristic looking. It looks like Grandma is wearing half a Stormtrooper outfit. My husband, on the other hand, flat out disagrees with me and says it shouldn't be messed with.

Bella, forgive my ignorance, but what's WWTMAMPI?

Will I be disowned if I said we've never been to COP? I always have put it in the category of Hall of Presidents and had it on the "B" (or "C") list if we found absolutely nothing else to do.

Now it sounds like I am missing something big though!

PS - Please don't disown me. I am sensitive. And fragile.

Who Wants to Be A Millionaire? Play It!!

This was one of my favorites..apparently I was the only one..haha!

Dave made it to the hot seat once..that was so much fun! He did not win the cruise though..punk.

And Jeff..GO on COP.. it is NOT a Hall of Presidents..it's so much fun. I just love the history behind it too.

You should go...it's just...neat. And definitely more interesting than HoP, which I only ever do because I should.

(Thanks, Bella Smile

I agree COP has a lot of history behind and not really much of a bore. lol It too is a great place to cool off from the Florida sun or a downpour.

Do I look like a history nerd if I mention that I LOVE HoP? I'm so bad I actually want to get over to DL so I can see Mr. Lincoln too!

We hit COP at least twice if not more every trip. I just have to get that song in my head, and yes I would be very upset if they ever did away with it. And I must be old because I've been around long enough that I remember them updating the last scene at least once! wheelchair

COP is awesome...unless you get stuck in it! Seeing the same part over and over and over again... then hoping against hope that you'll rotate this time...then not rotating...then seeing the same part AGAIN...

I had to get outta there!

If you are a history nerd, then so am I! But I'm confused about the Lincoln thing. Is he gone from WDW HoP? I thought he was there...I thought they all were. (Is this where I show how unmouse-ducated I am?)

Loves it! I would be very sad if it was replaced. So much is new they need to hang onto a bit of the old.

I think that's really important actually. Once they break too much of the connection to the original attractions I think some of the magic will be lost.

I adored COP when we went on it. As a matter fact its my one must do in tomorrowland. I was humming that song for weeks!

Wish I could have played Millionaire. They had it in CA for a little while. Glad they never put Idol out here.. that was not pretty.

I like CoP and HoP too.. also the American Adventure. My brother (aka travel buddy) on the other hand.. lol.. he'll only go on those if it's crazy hot. Sad

DL's Great Moments with Mr Lincoln is finally back. It was gone for awhile for the 50th anniversary of DL, they had a movie in there about.. DL of course!
Anyway, a few years ago they "reimagined" the attraction and made it "3D sound" or something. You had to wear these giant headphones. It DID sound cool but.. I liked the original version and I started a boycott of the attraction lol. I havent been on it since its return after the 50th.. but I dont think they do the sound thing anymore.

Kristi -- How fun that that's your one "to-do" in Tomorrowland! It's such a classic attraction.

DD -- I think they have removed the headphones as far as I know. What a horrible thing to make guests do!

You guys, I don't think CoP is going to get the axe. It was one of Walt's favorite rides, I bet that's the only reason it's still there: legacy.
When you think about it (and about Mr Toad...), it should've been gone a long time ago. Since it's still there, I think it's a keeper!

You talk about flying cars?? I'm on a countdown: four years until I can rightfully demand my Hoverboard!!
