Character Meal Help!

My fiancee and I will be down...if you've read some of my posts...from June 13th to June 19th. Pop Century.

Last time she fell in love with Crystal Palace and how it impacted (positively) our MK day.

Here's the situation.

1) I wanna do CP again. For our MK day morning.

2) We're going to do rope drop for all 4 parks. Even Typhoon Lagoon.

3) I wanna do either Cape May Cafe or Chef Mickey's since we haven't done it...it'd be a blast.

4) So far I have....a DHS rope drop morning with Everything Pop breakfast, a MK RD morning with CP, a TL RD with Everything Pop breakfast, an Epcot RD morning with Everything Pop breakfast, an AK RD morning with Tusker breakfast, and a completely empty departure day that's totally up to her.

How do I fit in one of those 2 character breakfasts??

I'm thinking to do Cape May before our DHS morning. Thoughts?

Thanks so much..I know it's a long post!

You can go to Cape May before either Epcot or DHS.

But in order to make rope drop for either of them? We're staying at Pop Century, how early would we have to leave? How early CAN we leave?

I'm thinking maybe before Typhoon Lagoon? We bring towels with us? To either Chef Mickey's or Cape May? And timing?

PS: We've never seen the opening ceremonies at any park....MK included. Think we should?

When I had an ADR for breakfast at another resort, I did not plan on doing anything urgent that morning. The problem I have is with WDW bus transportation is that between resorts, the service is inefficient/poor. If you reliant on the bus service, you will have to go DTD or the TC and transfer from there. You can also try to go to one of the parks and then get on a returning bus back. We were at AKL and had an early morning ADR at Whispering Canyon - we took the bus to EPCOT, then waited for a bus to WL. The problem is that there werent that many busses running to WL at that time of morning. So we and a few others doing the same thing were all late for our reservation time. It wasnt a problem at the restaurant, but then you would be late for RP. For us, if we planned on being there for RP, we would just eat at the resort we were staying at so there would be less of a chance to miss it. I would do Typhoon Lagoon as you mentioned.

Thanks Scott. What I was planning...was get like the first ADR for Cape May Cafe. Bus to DHS and boat or walk there...boat or walk back. Definitely seems iffy and risky not to mention early...

I'll try to work it in before Typhoon Lagoon. Won't it be awkward having towels and stuff with you at the character breakfast though?

The only rope drop that I personally find impressive is MK. I would say that you should do that at least one time.

Cape May is my absolute favorite character breakfast, especially for adults. mickey I would also just hop a cab from Pop to Beach Club to not worry about the time as much.

Suggestion - make one of those character meals lunch instead of breakfast. Make rope drop at the park du jour and then head out for lunch after you've visited the headline attractions.

Thanks everyone!

First off, I feel like a cab isn't very Disney'esque lol. Our Magical Express bus for our departure day never came to AKL last year, so they called a cab and the resort took care of the bill. But it was really bad..the driver didn't talk at all and then my fiancee caught him dozing off at the wheel (it was 4pm) in the rear view mirror and yelled at him to stay awake.

Secondly, she won't be able to leave the hotel without something to eat...she's a breakfast girl. Plus, I really wanted a character breakfast...it ends at 11:30. 11am wouldn't get a full experience I feel. It'd hafta be 10:30, and the only park I'd feel comfortable doing that in is Magic Kingdom, but we already have a pre-RD ADR for Crystal Palace that morning.

I've decided to do Chef Mickey's, 8:05AM ADR, before Typhoon Lagoon. We'll grab a 7am bus from POP to MK, and then monorail over to Contemporary. Then grab a bus from CR to TL. Goal is to be there by 10am. That'd work right?

That should work. Also, I wouldn't think bringing your TL stuff with you to breakfast would be odd. I think it is like a puzzle to get from one resort to another when you have ADR's - maybe I just like the challenge. I am not big on using cab's inside WDW either, but if WDW offered a shuttle service for a minimal charge - I would consider that option - especially when going between resorts that are far apart.

I had an 8:00am ADR at Cape May Cafe during my trip in November. I took the bus from Pop at 7:00am and was planning on taking the boat if they were running. I allowed enough time to walk if needed. The bus driver asked if anyone on the bus had breakfast reservations at the nearby resorts and said the boats weren't running at that time. I told him I did. He told me to stay on the bus and he drove me over to the Beach Club. I can't say if this is a normal practice or just added customer service by the bus driver. I was at Cape May by 7:30.

As far as opening ceremonies go, I've read that MK is the only park that has one now. MK was the only park I made it to early enough to see it. I got to the other parks right after RD so I can't confirm or deny what I read.

Can I make another breakfast suggestion? I would suggest 1900 Park Fair over Chef Mickeys. You will see different characters during this breakfast (Alice in Wonderland, Mad Hatter, Mary Poppins).

Wow...that's awesome! What a nice driver!

I really want a character breakfast with costumed characters....no offense to the princesses but they're not really our cup of tea.......lol

I was trying to decide between Chef Mickeys and Cape May. I really wanna see Contempo and I heard its one of those must-do things.

LOL... I don't want to spoil the magic, but, I'm pretty sure that the Princesses are wearing costumes too. laugh

There's a lot of debate over which Character breakfasts are the best. Do I remember correctly that your fiance isn't a real adventurous eater? If so, then the food at Chef Mickey's will probably be more to her liking. You will get characters from the fab five there too, so you guys should enjoy that more.

I am not a Chef Mickey's fan at all. I find it over-crowded and lacking the atmosphere that it used to have. It is often very noisey and somehow I always end up with a table of fairly unsurpervised children at the table next to me. The food to me is extremely average and the buffet can get messy (again, unsupervised children). If your table is facing the kitchen door it's not unusual to see Mickey walk right past Mickey, I always hate to see that. I also feel very, very rushed at Chef Mickey's, it's all about turning a table to them and I think the service is not up to the standard of other restaurants. Add that onto the sales pitch to buy the photo package and I'd just rather skip it.

All that being said, I know more families that would rather go there, than would skip it. Like so many things at WDW it's a personal choice and that's part of what makes Disney appealing to so many different types of people.

Thanks! Yup...you are correct. Not very adventurous. Think a breakfast that would make a 12yr old happy..lol =)

I'm gonna throw in photopass+...is it still available for WDW?

I'm gonna do chef mickeys. I got an 8:05 ADR.

She'll love it Smile

Yes, PhotoPass+ is still available, and as the MyMagic+ is rolled out, it will be incorporated into that system as well.

Cool! You may want to make sure to schedule the breakfast on a non- Morning EMH day for Magic Kingdom. We saw that on the day of the MK morning hours last week the bus line at Pop was overflowing. The buses weren't more than a few minutes apart, but they were certainly packed with people heading for the 8am rope drop.
