Checking in for the holidays!!

Hey gang, wanted to wish all of you a great holiday season.

I know I haven't been around lately, but I had to find some time to dedicate to actual "work". Hopefully things will turn a bit after the first of the year and I'll start finding my way back in. Maybe even get another trip planned if all goes well.

To all of you I talked to earlier this year in here, and to all of you I haven't met yet, have a great season, what-EVER it is you celebrate!

Ed a.k.a. MouseTraveler

No, no snow so far here. We're a bit too far south and a bit too far west and its all gone around us.

Thanks guys (and gals).

Heya MT! We've missed you!

I've been pretty buried myself. Did you watch the Top Gear Polar Special?

Hey Brad they really put that truck through it's paces didn't they. I wonder if that rescue chopper was as far away as they said it was if they ever needed it.
of course they had help nearby when you consider the film crews. I would be curious to hear your (and anyone else's) take on it. Especially that the show's producers would subject them to that danger. That dog team and trainer was no slouch either. eek

Some of that anxiety seemed pretty real, didn't it? It really did seem like they were in some significant danger for a lot of that "expedition." And when Hammond started talking about "having a weep" on the dogsled... I can't even imagine what all those days mushing to the North Pole must have been like.

Absolutely! Loved that special. It made me wonder just how many people it takes to produce that show with all the camera crews and stuff.

There is a page on Facebook to "Save Top Gear". According to it, the BBC has indicated that they could stop production due to the high cost of the show, as well as it having gotten away from its roots.

You never know how much truth there is to a rumor like that, but I sure hope it doesn't happen!

PS-Hiya SOLO!!!

If you've only just had the polar expedition over in the U.S. (which is pretty awesome), then there's plenty still to see. Wait for the Vietnam special or the Romanian trip.

Ooh, I'm jealous! So unfair you guys get all the Top Gear episodes first! Although I guess there's plenty we get first? I don't really know how it works.

P.S. Hi MouseTraveler. Good to see you around again!

The Vietnam special aired several months ago. (Loved those suits)
Haven't seen the Romanian trip yet tho!

I missed that one. Although I love knowing there are ones I haven't seen. Sometimes I get worried I've seen all the ones they've released here.

On the Vietnam show, they attempted to drive from one end of the country to the other on motorcycles they bought there. Which led to the contrast of bikes the three of them picked and a lot of other nonsense.

I think my two favorites are still the run to Blackpool, and when they went across the south from Miami to New Orleans.

The Miami to Orleans run was good, but I believe some of the situations they got into with locals were set up deliberately.

I've just (in the last 1/2 hour) watched the new Bolivia special awesome clapping

Hey MT! Good to see you! We figured you were working like a dog; hope all is going well.

No wonder the BBC is concerned about cost -- Romania, Viet Nam, Bolivia, the North Pole, the US, etc. etc. etc... I do love the show, though. That lot is funny no matter where they are.

Top Gear is back on UK TV. Woohooo. They are in the U.S. again in the first episode, this time driving around Virginia and up to New York.
