Chef Art Smith's Homecoming Florida Kitchen & Southern Shine

Chef Art Smith's Homecoming Florida Kitchen & Southern Shine Bar will be opening very soon at Disney Springs! Two local news stations had information, including an interview with Chef Art and video of the interior. It looks awesome, and after watching the video I totally want to go dig into the famous fried chicken. Mmmmmm....mmmmmm.....

I can't believe that I'm going to say this, but I just canceled my California Grill reservations so that I can get a table at Homecoming. One look at a picture of the fried chicken and doughnuts and I knew I had to give it a try. Plus - I'll save a table credit and get to eat Chef Art's food - score! Reservations are supposed to open up mid-August.

The couple of reviews I have seen look amazing. I do love me some fried chicken but I am sticking to Frontera Cocina this time

Of all the new table service restaurants opening at Disney Springs, this is one we would actually go to. we won't be going during our October trip this year, but I'll make room for it for the next trip awesome

We just did the same! California Grill is taking a hit at the hands of Art Smith... Our reasoning is a little bit different though. The menu looks awesome and of course we're excited about the food, but the real reason that we switched is because my DAD is Art Smith (not the chef-he's just a regular, "normal" Art Smith), but we wanted to eat there because we thought the coincidence was hilarious. laugh

I was *so* thrilled to eat here last week! Truly one of the two best meals of my trip (the other being at Tiffins). I'll have a full review on the blog soon, and a few more details in my trip report - for now, here are some photos of the down home deliciousness!

Church Lady Deviled Eggs and the Jaspar Board were both total winners. The ham on the Jaspar Board was perhaps the best I have ever had, and the pimento cheese spread was creamy and mild, perfect for someone who wants to try pimento cheese but isn't sure they would like it.

Muleshine was a great cocktail

I had the BBQ Pork with hush puppies instead of cheddar biscuits, it comes with a side of mac and cheese that is to die for. The BBQ rub is heavy on black pepper, I loved it, but you need to be fond of pepper to enjoy this. My son had The Hamilton, it was a good burger - but didn't blow me away compared to the rest of the food. The chips that come with the Hamilton are house made and drizzled with the house ice box dressing which is really really yummy.

This is Callahan - he was our AMAZING waiter for the night. If you run into him, be sure to tell him that you heard about him on Grown-ups and Kristen says hello.

Hummingbird cake is amazing... it may be the lightest and fluffiest cream cheese frosting I've ever had.

I'm catching up on older posts after my very tumultuous summer and fall...

I am not keen on eating restaurant food that I could make at home myself or order at any better-than-average diner in my area. Never bothered with 50s Prime Time since there is literally nothing on the menu that I could not make myself. But Homecoming has a famous chef and everyone raves about it. I read the review above. I've seen the menu and it looks a lot more interesting than the 50s Prime Time comfort food offerings. But again, I can make most of this stuff at home. As well? Probably not, but still. So should I eat there? Was the food that awesome? Convince me to keep the ADR I've made in January.

Just did lunch there on Saturday, and I'm giving it two very enthusiastic thumbs up. I went in expecting something akin to Cracker Barrel and was pleasantly surprised. Definitely worth the visit! Actually, the worst thing about our visit is that we were so full we had to skip dessert. But now I have a reason to go back.

I think we will try this one out when we are there in January for the hockey tournament. I've read so many stellar reviews and even though I can make all of this at home, I am a sucker for a good southern meal!
