Christmas, A January Trip and Health Issues

As some of you know, I am having a ton of health issues right now. We still don't know everything that is going on but hopefully Thursday's appointment with the rheumatologist will give us some answers. Long story short, I've been out of work 3 weeks now and it all started from uncontrollable nose bleeds which led to ER visits, surgery, an infection, a CT to which I had a rare and extreme allergic reaction to the contrast and now somehow I have a form of arthritis that this has all triggered. Lot's of issues raising my arms, walking, sleeping, everything hurts.

This all leads to the quick trip I was wanting to make the week after Christmas. At this point I'm not even sure if I could do it. I went to work one day and was down for 2 days. Prednisone helps with the pain but I really hate steroids and I don't want to take them all the time. All I want to do is go the the resorts and Disney Springs for the decorations. I am considering it still and thinking of maybe renting an ECV which is a whole new ballgame for me and I know NOTHING about it. We would be staying off property for this visit (yay Hilton Points) so transporting and ECV back and forth would be an issue also. Any help or advice with this is most welcome.

We currently have a short trip planned for January. It is actually for a hockey tournament but depending on my health status, we will go down a day early and I will try to spend a day or 2 in the parks. We are staying in North Altamonte Springs which is a good way from the parks. I will probably just pick a restaurant or 2 for dinners (Homecoming for sure). Anyone have any suggestions for off property in the Altamonte Springs area???

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and everyone is ready for Christmas!

Sorry to hear about your health issues JMed. That really sucks, and especially for this to happen around the holidays. Hoping you get some answers and find a remedy quick.

Regarding the EVC, do you drive down. When scrappy needed an EVC the few trips, we rented one from Lake Buena Vista rentals that broke down into 4 pieces really easy, threw it into the back of the car and off we went. I'd get one of those again in a minute if we ever needed one again. They drop it off before you arrive at your resort and pick it up there once you are done. Easy as ever.

Good luck and here is hoping for healthy and happy holidays to all!

Thanks Mr Hub, it's been frustrating, hoping lots of answers come soon!

We do drive down, which is why I was worried about transporting it since we will not be on property. Not even sure if I will really need it at this point (the way the pain comes and goes I am guessing yes) but I want to have the option of I need it.

I just hear some horror stories from the parks and it kinda scares me. I know many of the members use them and they have had a run in or 2 with other angry guests. I am guessing since we won't be in the parks it shouldn't be as big of an issue.

Thanks for the info, I will check them out for sure!

Do it - absolutely. I know that it can be difficult to make the commitment, for me there were mental hurdles to jump. Yes, there are foibles to being in an ECV. Those few bad experiences do not outweigh the need for you to be kind to yourself.

Once I got over myself, dealing with my Fibromyalgia traveling became *so* much easier. Disney puts more stress on your body than you realize, and even if you think you're having a good day when you wake up, you don't want to hit your limit and have a rough time getting back to the car leaving early. Be kind to yourself, take it easy, rent an ECV.

Check out the Pride Revo for it's portability. See if you can get a Handicap Parking Tag for the trip.

This is the one we get from Buena Vista Scooters. Pretty much the same one.

Thanks y'all. Christmas is not going to happen. Too much going on including doctor appointments. I have been feeling much better with just a little pain here and there but nothing that I can't tolerate. I will keep these in mind in case I need a back up for January. It's not going to be full days but you never know. Fingers crossed I stay healthy!
