Have just read the AFI and shop are closing on 17 August. I like this exhibit and the shop, it was a great place to find film memorabilia. Sad it is going but curious as to what is going to replace it.
That's in two days!! Bummer. I was hoping to pick up a "best something" oscar statue next weekend for our friend who graduates from film school in October. I wonder if the closing is in preparation for the rumored Star Wars Land additions. Maybe they'll move the merchandise elsewhere?

So glad I was able to see it in June. I really enjoyed seeing all the costumes and mementos. I wish they could just find another place for it I think I did see some of their merchandise in believe it or not the shop by the Muppets movie.
I agree Sally-Ann. I really hope that they find a place to absorb this merchandise because even though some of it is scattered around elsewhere, it will definitely leave a merchandise void if they drop the line altogether. There is some "world's best ______" merchandise at the Emporium at MK. I know because I made Benn pose with the "world's best boyfriend" statue one time (which completely confused him--hilarious picture, but I can't seem to find it). Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure that they didn't have the little fake oscar statues and I'm quite certain that they don't carry the clapboards. Sid Cahuga's at the from of HS used to carry some photographs and things (although I think I heard that they were changing their focus/closing) and some of the behind the scenes DVDs are available at World of Disney in DTD.

When me and my mam heard this news our response was "this was the best part of backlot tour!" and we have actually decided not to bother doing backlot at all this year - it really needs an update or to be changed to something else!!!!
I'm sad they have brought forward the closure of American Idol - I've never seen it and was going to make an effort to go this year - oh well will just wait for whatever is coming!
