Cruise vs. Land and Sea

Thinking about cruising sometime in the next 5 years or so. Do you suggest (or would you prefer) to just cruise, or do a land and sea package?

I'd definitely go with both. You get more variety that way.

Theres no right or wrong answer. If you haven't been on a cruise before, then I'd do Land/Sea because cruising just might not be for you.
If you like cruising, then you might want to consider a longer cruise.

Agreed. On our longer cruises we usually go in the day before and get to spend at least ONE day park hopping.
We got lucky one year when I was actually meeting with a cruise rep. We had breakfast at the Wilderness Lodge with her, and then she took us over to the Magic Kingdom and signed us in and we got to spend a bit of time on Mickey's dime in the park that morning.

Did you get any other perks or just free admittance?

Just free admittance at the parks.

However, while on board she made SURE we were treated like royalty. We had champagne in the cabin, different food items nightly (chocolates, cheeses, fruit, etc), and the officer in charge of the various restaurants called to check on us and wanted to meet us.

That came in VERY handy when we wanted to get an extra visit to Palo and he took care of it.

Seems to me like there were some extra souvenirs in the cabin, but I don't recall what they were.

I voted for just cruise. I've never cruised, and I think going out there for only 3 or 4 days wouldn't allow me to have the full experience.

I imagine that cruising is one of those vacations where you adopt another culture entirely, and when I'm on those vacations I like to fully immerse myself for long enough to really enjoy it.

ask a bunch of disney world nuts about whether you should skip wdw, and you'll get skewed answers. Smile

Hey--I included the Disney cruise option! mickey True, though, we love our WDW. Thanks for the answers so far, everyone.

Hi,

I voted for land-and-sea.

@Brad: Yes, it's hard to fly to Florida without hitting WDW, but the key is to make sure that your plane doesn't crash into it.

Yes, it's definitely key to make sure any WDW "hitting" is only metaphorical. laugh

I have done WDW both ways...and I definitly like the land/sea package. The only problem is there doesn't seem to be enough time on land. We added a day to our land part but it added a ridiculous cost to our trip (but worth it!).

I would like to offer Annie some advice...if you have never been on a cruise, a 3 or 4 night trip is perfect. You do get to experience the whole thing in that time span. You also get to find out if you like it! Spending a day or two in the middle of the ocean can get boring!

Great advice. I really do think I'm going to try out a short one before launching for the long one. I'll also let my parents know your advice -- they're considering a Disney cruise for their next vacation.

This really is good advice. I've never cruised and I'm very nervous about being "out of communication" for that long. A couple hours without Internet and I get this shakes.

They have internet on board. It cost a small fortune however...and you have to leave your first born and/or spouse as a deposit...

Yeah, leaving your first born for the duration of the cruise sounds like a good idea to me!
