Day 3: The Not-Quite-President's-Day Trip Report

We woke up this morning for Animal Kingdom Extra Magic Hour clapping

Tree of Life

Maharaja Jungle Trek

The place was rather empty for the EMH, and we rode several rides (Primeval Whirl, EE) twice with no wait.

Because of a twirling competition that weekend, the place was overrun with cheerleaders who couldn't, unfortunately, keep themselves from doing cheers, so our "quiet AK morning" didn't quite end up as quiet as we'd expected.

No worries, though, as we were headed to Donaldâs Safari Breakfast--any WDW visitor knows that character breakfasts ain't quiet, but they're a whole lot of fun! We got to hang out with Mickey, Goofy, Donald, and Daisy for breakfast, and had a surprisingly good buffet!

Jungle Juice! (Oh...and Mickey... wink )

After breakfast, we ditched out on AK (we got all our favorite rides in during EMH) and went back to the hotel to get a little work done and do some swimming. A surprisingly boring day ensued--most of it spent on work (sorry sad ). We went to the gym in the evening, then we headed to the California Grill for dinner. Interestingly, when we went to the gym, I found a vending machine with VERY cheap soda pop. Everything on property is pushing $2.50, but this was $1.25 on the 3rd floor of the Contemporary! Perhaps it's that convention thing kicking in?

Coke Machine

We'd had a bad experience at California Grill previously, but were thrilled with this dinner. We were seated at a great table overlooking the Magic Kingdom, and we started with the most wonderful Celery Potato Soup (for which our server, Steven, snagged the ingredents list for us). As usual, we were in an appetizer-y mood and also ordered the Grilled Chicken/apple/arugula/cheddar flatbread and the ubiquitous cheese plate. We both ordered filet mignon with cheese Yukon gold potatoes for our entree.

Post-dinner, we headed downstairs to bed (so cool to be able to take the elevator down a few floors and be at our room!).

Tusker House is a buffet now, right? Is it pretty much the standard Disney stuff?

Oh you poor things. You have my sympathy. Your dinner sounded good, though.

One of the many factors that make January/February a much less desirable time to go than it once was.

Hours are pretty short at that time too, no?

Were there Cheerleaders there on your trip Imagineer?

They were starting to filter in toward the end of our trip, which was the last week of January.

One of our last days we spent at DHS and they were there performing on the Indiana Jones stage. For the most part they were contained in that area, but when they do wander the park, or are in line for an attraction, they can't help themselves from bursting into cheers.
