Well we have started re-decorating the guest bedroom. With inspiration from the layers of stories that Disney tells in all of its rides and resorts....we are starting to form a "story" for our guest bedroom. It's set in a hotel in the 1950's. A woman explorer, on a quest for treasure, is staying at the hotel in between her escapades. Eager to type and write and gather her momento's, she is surrounded by reptile luggage, binoculars, travel typewriter, maps, books, and safari pictures and fur throws. Part safari, part female Indiana Jones, part global - join me as we start to purchase items that enhance our guest's story.
First, our Muse:
(photographer: Louise Dahl-Wolfe)
Dahl-Wolfe was known for taking photographs outdoors, with natural light in distant locations from South America to Africa in what became known as "environmental" fashion photography.
This appeared in the issue of Harper's Bazaar on August 1949
The Duvet-to set the color palette:
No matter the time of year, nature is in full bloom with our classic, leafy floral on a field of rich, romantic red. Crisp 200-thread-count percale duvet covers are generously sized with inside ties at all corners to hold your duvet in place.
Art for the Wall:
Elaine Vollherbst-Lane - Global Revolution II
Curtains to bring out the rich red in the duvet:
An elephant never forgets, especially when it comes to looking fabulous on our paneled tapestries.
An antique reproduction map for pinning out the next expedition!
Every trekker needs a soft spot to rest:
Temani sports a sturdy mahogany-and-pine frame clad in natural, hand-woven rattan with a glossy lacquered finish. A wide, gently curved back and flared rattan pole armrests leave plenty of wiggle room. Personalize it with your favorite cushions and pillows. We know where you can get some.
And..the cushion for the chair:
Part of our indoor/outdoor Calliope Collection, this self-welted cushion gives you extra-thick construction, button tufts and a soft, weather-resistant fabric"all in a rich teal-turquoise color. It's a real gem.
An Antique Fan:
This 1950's antique fan is from Chicago - "Handy Breeze"
We have Amy's grandma's antique desk, a previously purchased Japanese armoire, and other items..
that I still need to photograph. Stay tuned..as the quest continues....
