Did I Over-Sell Gatorland?

I have a friend who isn't really a "Disney person" but his wife likes to get free accommodations via time share presentations and then have a little relaxation while they're there. So he, his wife and their two kids are headed to Florida and he was asking about Gatorland. I was really enthusiastic about it because I've heard good things and because I want to get his opinion, but now they're basically spending one day out of 3 at Gatorland. laugh

They are really there to vacation more than to "do Disney World," so while this might sound terrible to us I don't think they'll feel like they're missing out on that much at Disney. I'm just more concerned that I might have been over-selling Gatorland's reputation just because I wanted him to go and tell me about it. Have you guys heard as much good stuff about it as I have? Has anyone been?

We went years ago when the boys were still young. The boys including Mr Hub loved it. I really did not like it at all but I do not like creepy crawly things to start with. But, I am willing to bet the kids will like it. I have to say though that an entire day spent there seems extreme to me.

We've never been, so this is pure speculation on my part: Unless them gators do some really special tricks or somethin', a whole day's alot gators.

I have to ask though - do they sell Gator bites as snacks?

Any of you watched the Jackass movies? They were at Gatorland I think for one of them. Now... its not a place for me, but the stuff they did made me want to go there and watch them do it again.

As for your question... im not sure. Gatorland is kind like an extreme petting zoo in a way. So if the family is into reptiles and stuff like that, then sure. For our family... our son my like to go, but I wouldnt be able to go. I have a huge fear of snakes. So its a no go for me. But I sure do enjoy calling them for the answering machine... lol

It's really hard to say, Brad. Even as a local, I've never been! I'll put out the question to my family and friends and see what I come up with for you! As for me, I have ZERO interest in it. Come to think of it, my husband and his family might have done it during a family vacay in the past. I'll ask.

Gator Nuggets..................... 7.99

Ok, Brad.....have you tried them? Or anyone else? I've seen them at State Fairs, but that's about it.

My grandparents used to have a house in florida and I would eat gator tail when I went down to visit them. It was very good..Like everyone says...it tastes like chicken

I went once a long time ago and I will say that I don't remember it taking more than a few hours. So you might just want to tip them off to maybe only budget a half day for this and figure out something else to do the rest of the day. mickey

I did have the gator bites when we were there. They were pretty good but i thought they were a little to salty.

After putting the call out to friends and family yesterday on Facebook, I only got a couple of responses, both from FL friends. They both say it's good, it's fine, etc. No one is raving, and I can't see that they spent days there.

My impressions of Gatorland are that it's a taste of Florida that you don't get by just going to Disney, and that you're definitely going to see lots of creepy crawlies. I think if you're interested either in knowing about FL (as more than just the place Disney happened to be built) or you like to learn about gators, snakes, etc. then it might be interesting.

Me? I have that sort of guilty "I know I should go there, or want to go there, but I don't want potentially waste hours of my time that I'll never have back" feeling about the whole thing. But that's just me Smile I think, to discover the real FL, I'd rather take an airboat ride.

Gatorland is one of the off-site things I haven't done yet, but the UK guide books usually describe it asa something to do one the way to the airport.
Hotel checkouts are usually mid-morning and UK flights normally leave early evening (with 4 hours check-in time) so they suggest going there to fill in the time.

Well, there is this:

http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/features_orlando/2011/06/gatorland-how-to-fly-on-new-screamin-gator-zip-line.html

Note that I will never. ever. do. this. Ever. I will not be gator lunch. I don't care how safe and secure they say it is....

Gatorland kind of intrigues me..I am not into reptiles or anything like that but I can see why some people may go. I looked on the website and it's actually pretty affordable so if your friends hate it they may not want to cause you harm. Haha, I want to hear what they say about it though!

I didn't ask him if he did the ZipLine! He was very excited about it.

I should have mentioned that he was only doing the half day after they did their timeshare presentation. He said it was fun. They were glad they didn't but didn't feel any need to go back any time soon.

Bella - I heart you.

Thanks so much for the follow up. I wondered how it turned out.
