Dine With Shamu

How cow! yay

Sea World needs to pay Sarah (aglassslipper17) a commission for bringing this up in the Kraken thread. I've never been super keen on Sea World but I officially deem "Dine with Shamu" a must do. The info from Sea World is here:

http://www.seaworld.com/sitepage.aspx?PageID=593

Here's some videos of how close they were in San Diego version I think:

What do you guys think?

That looks hilarious! I would definitely want to be sure my food doesn't get splashed with whale water...

Yeah, I keep thinking how they sucker those folks into coming down by the side of the tank with Shamu gong way up in the air and SOAKING the crowd in the first ten rows or so.

Does Shamu dine too? It looks like it from those videos.

We could "tweet" him and find out. He's always on Twitter as 'RealShamu'.

I'm not so sure I'm game for this! Especially if Shamu eats, too! Don't want to be looking at a bunch of dead fish while I'm eating! Shock

Makes sense to me. At Opry Mills in Nashville there is the 'Aquarium Restaurant', where you are surrounded by tanks of fish while you eat the days specialty. It's always seemed a bit bizarre to me.

That is exactly what my boyfriend said when I told him I had made plans for us to so this. laugh

The orca more or less just swim while you eat, so not a lot of splashing. The tricks are typically after you are done eatting, and still the splash ever gets you (not anything like the big splash at the show)

Also, they give "shamu" some fish for doing the tricks, but it isn't like he/she is gorging out on fish while you eat either. I have an extremely busy week (I work 12 hour shifts), but I will try and find some pictures from our experience and post them this week.

Sarah has searched all over the internet to find the most ill-informed board around! Congratulations to WDW For Grownups! clapping laugh

I suspect your love for marine life helps you overcome the Disney-ADD that the rest of us have. A lot of us have never even tried out another park.

I'm obviously pretty jazzed about this thing though, are there any other awesome Sea World activities we should know about?

Seaworld does offer behind-the-scenes tours (something in the line of the keys to the kingdom tour - if I try to make a disney analog) They are pretty cool, but I generally just make a reservation for dine with shamu, make sure to go to all the shows, and feed the animals (you can feed sting rays, dolphins, and sea lions/harbor seals) I personally end up going through a lot of money buying fish and feeding the sea lions. muchlove They fasinate me and I could probably stand there all day if I didn't have someone to tear me away.

One of my only complaints is it always seems hotter at seaworld than at disney, so be prepared.

You can find a menu here http://www.seaworld.com/sitepage.aspx?PageID=593

While they have separate adult and children menu . . all the food is served buffet style on the same table. So I am pretty sure I ate a little off of each menu. laugh

That sounds really cool. I've actually never even been to Sea World Orlando (Just Ontario a million years ago). Sounds like it might be worth a visit (especially with the new coaster!)

Beef Stew and Shamu! Fun for me and you.

Although I wonder if eating Seafood Creole in front of all the fishies is mean.

Luckily, I don't like seafood, so my meal will be PC.

These were taken with a regular point and shoot nikon camera . . . if that says anything about how close you get to the animals

Again, I highly recommend . . it is a great experience.

Great photos! You really do get right next to them! Sounds like a fantastic experience.

Now, was it crowded or difficult to get a reservation? How far in advance do you have to book?

I think we booked maybe a month or two in advance .. it isn't as hard to get reservations as some disney resturants and you can book online. There is a limited amount of seats so it doesn't get crowded and the trainers will come to each table at the end and give you a chance to talk to them about the animals, how they train them, and ask any questions you may have.

I'd love the chance to talk to the trainers; DW would too.

If you wanted to do one thing, non-Disney on a trip (and lets be honest not every one does) this is my recommendation.
