Dinner reservations during Food and Wine...?

My wife and I are going in September for our big ONE year anniversary, and I am downright giddy. I can't WAIT! No matter how many times I go, it just makes me happy.
I've planned our trip to be at Epcot for Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and the Food & Wine Festival, but need to know if I should make reservations at one of the restaurants as well or plan on eating lots of small portions as part of the festival?

Thanks

p.s. I did search for this information in existing threads, but couldn't find what I was looking for.

I think that question is based on the false assumption that you can't do both! biggrin

We usually snack around the world but try to have at least one "real meal" per day. I love sitting down and relaxing for table service so we don't usually like to skip them, even if we're already stuffed from our treats.

I loves me some BBVD. They're great live, so I envy you!

Now, are you only going to F&W for one day, or will you be able to visit Epcot several times? If several times, I'd say book a restaurant once (Le Cellier if possible), and nosh around the world the other times. It always takes me two tries to get around to all of the kiosks---I get stuffed after the first 5 or so!

Wow, thanks for the prompt replies! We'll only be at Epcot for one day, but I figure we can cover a lot of ground:) I've heard Le Cellier is excellent, so I may make reservations there pending more input.

Le Cellier is fantastic. Hard to get ADR though. If you're into your 90 days be sure to try to get them as soon as you are. If not go try asap! Where are you staying?

The Fountains Resort (own vacation property). Want to stay on property next time, but it's hard to resist the Fountains - especially when there's no cost to me (beyond my small vacation property mortgage).

Well, with BBVD and all the other food, I'm not sure there will be time and room in us for a big dinner. Also, I have reservations at the fancy seafood restaurant at the Grand Floridian for our anniversary dinner (not the same night) so we will have at least a couple nice dinners even without Le Cellier. Still undecided, but I need to hurry up and decide if I want to have a chance at a reservation:)

Do you rent it out the rest of the time when you aren't there?

Well, if you're there for the day, you can always do F&W kiosks for lunch and table-service for dinner. mickey

No, I only own part of a property in Big Sky Montana. That portion of the deeded property I own is converted to vacation 'time'. Some would refer to it as a time share, but I don't think that's accurate. I can travel when I want, where I want.

Is it a set number of days? You mentioned you usually go for 9 days?

No, it's not a set number. It all depends on how I want to use the time/points I have. I can make the same amount last for six weeks worth of vacation or one or two really fancy ones. I also have the option of staying for cash at basically the cost of having the place cleaned (say $40-$50/night for a two bedroom with full kitchen, etc.). I was just referring to the time spent on vacation given a week off work. In the past, we would always leave Friday and return Sunday. My wife works 80+ hours a week and that is no longer reasonable.

Could be; I've not had much experience with DVC.

Sigh. Six weeks of vacation. That'd be wonderful biggrin

Heh, yeah we're both about due. I left a pretty successful career in emergency services when we got married (a year ago in September) and was out of work for months. I assumed with relevant work experience, a deep and varied skill set (with professional certifications, degree, the works), and a good resume I'd be able to get a job in my field no problem...I was wrong. It was a very hard time for both of us. Thankfully I had some money saved, and was able to sell my house for a fair price, so we came through (with a little help from family). All that said, that's why this is a HUGE vacation. yay
This will be our first real vacation since our honeymoon. Often times we don't even have the weekends to spend together. We have been fortunate enough to take one or two small weekend trips (a great one to DC), but this is the first week.

Heh, the career I left, I had seven plus weeks a year. After being there a few years, you could never use all of it (especially since at a 24/7 operation, there are a limited number of people that can be gone any given day/shift), so it would build up. I've taken off months at a time, although six weeks is the sweet spot:) Wasn't all rosey, mind you, the reason we got so much time off is to keep people from keeling over any more than they already did due to the work-related stress.

Now I have less than three weeks, but it's a very laid back environment and I can take that time however (or whenever) I see fit. Let me tell you, that is a much better option.

Atmosphere and culture is everything in a job. If you don't like being there, it doesn't matter how much vacation you get. IMHO.

I concur. I enjoyed my work before, but all the other things that came with it took a toll. I'm much happier now.

One consideration. While I'd hate to contribute to the shortage of Le Cellier ADRs, you can always cancel if you decide you don't want it, but once it's gone...it's gone.

That probably would have been the smartest thing to do. Wish I'd looked at it that way a couple weeks ago when there were probably Le Cellier ADRs left:) [rushes to go call]

Well, I must thank you Brad (or curse you laugh -$-$-$); Le Cellier was not available as expected. I did get reservations at Teppan Edo, which I'm actually pretty thrilled about. We enjoy Asian quisine. Apparently that's also a great place to watch Illuminations (from the second floor).

Teppan Edo is lovely. I'm sure you'll enjoy. You can see Illuminations from Tokyo Dining (next door) or from the walkway in front of the Japan restaurants on the second floor of the building. Head out there quick, though--I've heard it fills up fast.

Yeah, it's going to be tough to work that out just right. The only reservation left was at 8pm, so we're going to get there super early and hope they have room for us.

Good idea. We've always had luck with getting to a reservation a bit early and letting them know we're willing to wait for our requested table.

Yeah, I'm not picky in this case. I'd just like to have dinner and finish in time to hurry upstairs for a decent view of Illuminations.

I bet you can make it. Might work out just about perfectly, although you may have to skip dessert!
