Disney in 3D (from your home or office)

Now, I'm sure some of you are already familiar, but Google Earth is quite the handy tool. It can be used for many purposes, but in this case the purpose is fun. You can basically take a virtual tour of any WDW property (including the resorts) in 3D. The models are photo-realistic; whereby the scale, georeferenced location, orientation, and even colors are true to life. Google Earth is free and easy to use. At one point, it was free but not for any commercial use per the EULA (end user license agreement), but that has since changed. Long as you're not using the free version of the software for profit, you can (per their EULA) use it at work.

It does require a small download and internet access.

I remember when this first came out, but I didn't actually explore as much as I wanted to. Thanks for the reminder...sounds like i could pass many a weekend hour doing this. (If you play theme park music in the background, it's like you're really there...?)

I really enjoy it. The models have come a long way both in scope and number. EVERYTHING is modeled (in 3D) now, even the trees. There are a ton of other things you can do with it, but I wanted to keep it simple. One other fun thing to do, though, is a fly over. There's an option to run Microsoft Flight Sim right there in Google Earth and actually fly a [virtual] plane over your favorite locations (then crash said plane if you're not accustomed to such a thing:) ).

What's really interesting is how many TV shows are now using Google Earth in their video segments. I see "Source: Google Earth" in all kinds of TV shows now.

Maybe I was late to the Google Earth party, but I find the Disney stuff entirely awesome. It's really neat to be able to tour the Resorts I've never been to and make like I'm walking through (or flying over a la Peter Pan) my favorite parks.
