Disney to cut monorail hours

From the Orlando Sentinel today:

Walt Disney World is cutting operating hours for its monorail, a move designed to give maintenance crews more time to work on the aging transportation system.

Disney plans to begin shutting down monorail service one hour after regularly scheduled park closings in the Magic Kingdom and Epcot, the two theme parks served by the resort's trains. In addition, Disney will no longer run the trains during evening "Extra Magic Hours," the late-night period during which only guests staying in Disney hotels are allowed in the parks.

Yes, it appears to be another case of one step forward and two steps backwards. sarcastic

Personally... why dont they just shut it off completely, and just perform the maintenance. I mean they need to do the work. Cutting the hours like this is already going to cause a lot of headaches. Just shut it down and employ more buses to that area. I also think it could use a make over a bit to.

Wonder if they ever plan on expanding it to say AK and HS?

That can be answered in just 5 words "Never, Never, Never and Never". The cost of expansion would be staggering and prohibitive.

Couldn't have said it better myself...
I agree..shut it down for a few months..do what they need to do and reboot it. Of course I wouldn't want to be in charge of all that planning and coordinating..but whatever.

Like the article said, the 3 most expensive resorts have monorail service and that is why a lot of people pick those resorts. When it's late at night and we have a tired toddler, I want to jump on the monorail, not get on a bus!
