Disney Dream Cruise Officially Re-booked!

yay yay yay yay

As many of you are aware, DH and I had to postpone our first ever Disney Cruise in April due to our precious Willow's sudden health issues. Well today, we are officially re-booked! We'll be going the week of October 20th!! I am beyond excited, but also a little impatient about having to wait 5 months and 12 days. It seems like such a long way off, but I figured it gives me plenty of time to get a ton of tips from all of you expert DCL cruisers out there. Bring them on!

Ps. DisneyDee, I went with a Verandah Cabin on Deck 8!

yay yay yay yay

Willow is doing pretty good considering. She seems to be adjusting to her loss of sight. She has the house mapped out and only bangs into things once in a while now (mainly when she's excited or just wakes up). We're heading to the specialist tomorrow for a follow up. Will keep you posted.

We're in the aft on the starboard side, so we should be able to enjoy the fireworks from our verandah! Yes, let's definitely chat. This is my very first Disney cruise, so I'll take all the tips I can get!

1. Dream Door
2. Fantasy door
3. pirates IN the caribbean party
4. Leaving Puerto Rico on the Fantasy Dec. 2012

I like seeing the fireworks from Deck 11, there's a fun dance party and show. We usually stay starboard and aft as well I just like the atmosphere on deck 11 during this event.
Door magnets can be made on your own or requested free from another disney board. I asked for a number of printouts and then took them to FedEx office to get laminated (i've since bought a laminator) and magnetic tape. No sticky stuff on Disney doors or walls.
The little Mermaid, Flounder and starfish were Fish Extender gifts. they are made out of plastic beads awesome
On that other board you should find cruise meet n greets for your specific cruise. I joined the FE (the gift exchange which uses the hanging pockets) and we received a ton of gifts. It's an optional gift exchange with people from those other boards. Some are bought some are homemade. It's all fun mickey
Pre-pay tips so you can forgetaboutit Smile As you can see by the pictures we like deck 8, it's close to everything except the theaters but those are easily managed. The aft elevators have very little wait as well awesome
Btw you can order the FEs on ebay or easy or some people are crafty and will make their own. I recommend a zip tie to attach it to your fish (or seahorse in our case) because some have walked away. (if you plan on doing the FE)
I went to my local $1 store and bought pirate decorations, banners, flags etc and added magnetic tape and changed our door for pirate night. I don't have pics but it was very simple and fun. JoAnn Fabric's, Michael's, or Hobby Lobby's are all good sources for stuff too. I painted the "DREAM" door ornament as well as a few other things. I am not what you would call artsy at all biggrin
book a brunch at Palo (or Remy) that way you won't miss any of the rotating restaurants or try to get a dinner ressie at either restaurant after the 4th night if it's 4 nights or longer because the restaurants repeat. If you are sailing on the fantasy, magic, or wonder, find out when the animator's palate show is and don't miss the fun! Your servers travel with you from restaurant to restaurant so they will know your drink of choice and dining habits. Which is really nice Smile
When you first board after the oohing and aahing, go over to guest services and sign up for some classes. What kind of classes you ask?! There are cooking demonstrations, Whiskey, Tequila, Wine, Margarita and mixology tastings on board. It's usually around $15-$20 per person you'll get 4-5 drinks during the tastings and it works out to be cheaper than just ordering from the bar. We met some great people and sampled some tasty beverages during the class. There are shopping seminars. Which will tell you the best places to shop. Whitney on the Dream was awesome for us. We splurged at a jewelry store and it appraised for much more than we paid. She personally assisted us with "haggling" at the jewelry store. awesome awesome
You can do as much or as little as you want while on board. The shows are awesome! We took chocolates for the staff and ordered a lot of room service especially after excursions. Sometimes you just need a cheese tray and some cookies. biggrin bring singles for room service tipping.
we settled up our account each night using gift cards just like i do for our WDW stays.
Sorry for being so talkative and random. Feel free to inbox me questions or concerns. I'm happy to share what I know. clapping
Dee

Thanks, Dee. Great tips! We're only doing a 4 nighter on the Dream, and my husband really wants to do Palo for dinner. Should I make it for the 4th night so we hit the other three dining rooms or is there a possibility we might end up dining in one dining room twice before the last night. I definitely don't want to miss Animators Palette but unfortunately, I don't think I'll know our scheduled until we get on board right?

I believe you can call once you get closer and find out your dining schedule. I'm not sure when they have that info but they do have it. I've read on other boards about people switching their schedule. The 4 night Dream should offer a brunch on the sea day...dinner is tasty but brunch is fantastic. awesome in my opinion.
Happy to help,
Dee

Dee - awesome tips! I've been on 5 Disney cruises but all have been on the Wonder and Magic - and no cruises for the past 6 years - excited to have booked a 3 day on the Dream 12/26/13! The door decorating is new since I cruised - looking forward to getting creative! Not sure if we'll participate in the FE gift exchange...need to explore that a bit....

again - thanks for your tips - keep them coming!
