Disney Family Museum

This is a short report of our trip yesterday to the Disney Family Museum at San Francesco's Prisidio.

The front of the museum building.

We spent at least an hour and a half inside the building. Read up on a lot of the early years of Walt and his family. A lot of pictures, but I wish there were a lot more artifacts.

Most of the history surrounding the theme parks creation were towards the end in this one display room.

I'll post a few more photos of the content of the museum after I get back tomorrow.

Today, we will be taking the BART to Union square and do the Disney store there. The timing is perfect because Disney Stores has a promotional sale of 25% discount going on right now!

Oh, my poor credit card!

Zz.

Woo! Fun!!! Have a blast. We were at the Disney Store overthere few weeks ago and they did not have their Christmas stuff yet. Which just means I have to drag Joe back again so we can add to our collection!!

Sorry for the fog today - egads!!

We just finished attacking the Disney store. It wasn't pretty.

They do have the Christmas stuff out, so Jeff, drag away!! Smile

Used the 25% discount, so that helped. Love the NFC/Apple Pay. We are nis having lunch in Chinatown.

Cool stuff. Odd they don't have the museum in Burbank. DVC was having some kind of show on Walt's life. By the time I found out about it, it was sold out.

From our neighborhood to yours comes "Great Moments with Walt Disney," a Disney Vacation Club live-theater experience created just for Members and their guests, making 8 U.S. tour stops in November and December as part of "Membership Magic."

About the Show
Join a duo of Disney insiders for a fascinating look at the man who started it all.

Hosted by Disney historian and author Tim O'Day with Disney Files Magazine Editor Ryan March, this lighthearted, 90-minute show for Members and their Guests features an array of Walt's rarely seen"or heard"appearances. These entertaining clips include his television hosting duties in the 1950s and 1960s that transformed him into a recognized celebrity, in addition to some of the more spontaneous moments that intimately capture the colorful character of the man behind the legend.

As Tim explains, "Whether you grew up watching Walt introduce his various shows on television or have simply watched his Disneyland dedication speech enough times to be able to complete the sentence, 'To all who come to this happy place ...' from memory, every Disney Vacation Club Member's life has included some great moments with Walt Disney. While we'll feature a few familiar moments in this show, we've dug even deeper into the vault to find rare images, video and audio that really showcase his fun and appealing personality."

He continues, "This is 'Uncle Walt' at his best, the way many people remember him, with more than a few sneak peeks behind the magic. The show will playfully illustrate that the person fans enjoyed on TV was pretty much the same Walt Disney you might encounter in person."

Members' enthusiastic response to the show's spring tour prompted Disney Vacation Club to schedule November and December tour stops in 7 additional U.S. cities home to large numbers of Members"Miami, Houston, New Orleans, Seattle, San Francisco, Indianapolis and New York's Long Island"as well as a special performance at the Walt Disney World Resort.

Thanks Zz! Appreciate the photos and time estimate. This is on our to-do list on our San Francisco cruise stop. Also even through there is no public tour, apparently LucasFilm has 17 acres of public park that visitors are welcome to roam and photograph and they are only a 1/2 mile from Walt Disney Family Museum!

As promised, here are a few more photos from the Disney Family Museum.

This is Elias Disney fiddle.

The type of camera used at the time that Walt started in the business.

Photos of the Alice Comedies posters.

This is the earliest known sketch of Mickey Mouse. The info accompanying this exhibit accompanies this photo.

Some of the very early Mickey Mouse memorabilia.

This plaque contains the genesis of our most favorite character, Donald Duck.

I took a photo of this chart because this was how the hierarchy of the Disney company was back then.

A model of Sleeping Beauty Castle

A model of Disneyland.

The multiplane camera, being displayed in the museum gift shop.

Zz.
