Disney Park Promotions -- what's the point?

Was reading over on the "reliable low season" thread and started to wonder about the disney park promos. Are they to encourage people to stay in the hotels or to visit the parks?

Disney says they're not seeing significant revenue increases, yet people (as least as far as I've read), are seeing crowd increases in the parks. I wonder what the motivation is. Maybe they should start promos to get people to buy things in the parks instead of stay at hotels, which seem to be revenue-losses. Just wondering about what you think the motivation is for the hotel promos.

I think your answer lies right there in your question Miss Bali. It gets people in the parks. More people in the parks = [at least] more opportunities for revenue.

I think their motivation is like any other business. They put something on sale...people go to look at it/buy it...people find something else they need/want. Figuring they saved money on one item, they can afford something else. Instead of walking out with the ONE thing they had on sale, people walk out with 3 or 4 other things they had no intention of buying.

I don't know how Disney breaks down their revenue figures, but I find it hard to believe they are losing money on anything.

It's a good concept, but I wish it was working better for them. They keep driving people into the parks, but it doesn't seem to be accomplishing what they'd hoped. Instead, it's just making the parks a less comfortable place to be...

OK -- done whining for today Wink

Well, rest assured; if these promotions don't have their desired effect on the proverbial bottom line, they won't continue. That said, I'm sorry to say I'm pretty sure the aforesaid bottom line comes before our desire to have smaller crowds on their list of priorities.
