Disney Quest

I've been to Disney Quest once and my recollection is long lines for the good stuff and pretty useless otherwise. laugh I've heard other Disney Quests nationwide are failing or closed. Anybody know the future of this place? confused

Or, anyone want to try to convince me to go back? mickey

I think there have been rumors for quite a few years that it would close but it is still ticking. The last I heard it was going to become a ESPN Zone but that never materialized.

I think it really suffers from location. It is too far away from everything. It is fun but it is not one of those places that is going to draw huge numbers with everything else there is to do there.

I went there on my last trip in September and had a good time but after about 3 hours was ready to leave.

There are no other Disneyquests nationwide anymore. I believe they tried one in Chicago but it closed.

Arcades have been kind of in decline as a general concept. When I was young we had arcades in all the malls and they were a big deal. It seems like these days I don't see them as much. Or maybe I just don't notice them because I'm old.

Everyone has an arcade in their living room now. Consoles have come so far that there's rarely much incentive to go to a mall where your parents have to worry about you and you have to pay for each time you play. I think more and more kids are staying at home with their XBox.

Of course you would think that Disney should be able to provide exactly the kind of games to benefit in such a market. It should be able to make things you can't play at home, so maybe DisneyQuest is still a valid concept after all.

Arcades were a pivotal part of my youth. Much healthier too since you had to walk to them and then stand while you played the game! laugh

I enjoyed DQ the one time I went. The "action" games (the Pirates thing, the Jungle Cruise thing) were fun and certainly different from anything I could do at home. I also really enjoyed the Buzz Lightyear thing. And I had a great time with some old games that I hadn't seen in years (anyone remember Joust!?). But I doubt I'll be heading back. It's just not worth the $40+ admission, IMO.

Yep, that's the one! And you had to collect the eggs and stomp on the other jousters' heads. I looked for an online version but haven't found anything I like yet (haven't been able to devote much time to it).

See, this is why I shouldn't do a quick check of the boards while I'm at work.. Forget the part where if I get caught I'll get fired. But now I want to play joust and I'd better not! Can't wait 'til I get home.

Oh drat! I have to take Eating Machine #2 to a city council meeting tonight for one of his Citizenship merit badges. Bummer! Can't wait to get home though. yay

A good thing about DisneyQuest is you get in free with a water parks and more pass. And since I dig Typhoon Lagoon so much Ill spend a little time in Quest Retrogaming.

Is the Water Parks and more thing the add-on to the AP? Or just a different kind of ticket? (I forget Disney jargon sometimes)

You get that with a Premium Annual Pass as well if I'm not mistaken. Basically I think if you buy something that gets you into the water parks you also can get into DisneyQuest.

Any particular games you recommend Marzyar?

I'm drawing a blank, but I think they had Donkey Kong. And I always gotta play donkey Kong. (And I would recommend skipping Cyberspace Mountain if you just ate.)

Cyberspace mountain?! What's that? Am I going to have to visit DisneyQuest next time?

Basically you design a roller coaster using a bunch or prefabricated elements and then you get to "Ride the roller coaster" thanks to a flight simulator, that can roll 360 in 2 directions.. (As in IF your coaster goes upside down, you go upside down), and I found it to be fairly realistic.

Isn't this where you design your own roller coaster, then get into one of those simulators to "ride" it?

The line was soooo long the last time I was there that we didn't get to do it, but it's premier--I really wanted to try it. mad

(oops--posted at the same time as Marzyar...thanks for the more detailed description, M!)

I did that last time I was there and darn near made myself sick. And I hadn't eaten. Guess I'm just getting old! LOL

I'm not having any luck finding the pricing on that online. What's the ballpark on that?

About $40 to get in. All attractions included.

Ah, no wonder the line is terrible for the RollerCoaster Generator. I assumed it had an additional separate cost.

I went when i was a kid right when it first opened it was amazing and we stayed for 6 hours. Even my parents loved it. Went back two years ago and lasted maybe 2 hours...and that was the main reason we got the Waterparks and more. A lot fo the games were broken and they had taken things out of a few floors.

The second time...only one thing sticks out in my mind and that was the Mighty Ducks Pinball Slam, we did that a couple times.

The floor of sports video games did not have as many and most of the classic games were broken.

It's most definitely "going south" from what I hear. People just aren't as enamored with it as they used to be; plus, sounds like maintenance is lacking.

Probably in a different type of theme park, this would be a bit hit, but there's just too many other things to DO in Disney World that people don't often make time for DQ.
