I have, recently, and it got me thinking. What is the reason some people see this disposition, if you will, through such disparaging eyes? Is it simply that they do not understand? Or perhaps their perception is laced with a bit of envy or elitism?
My view on the matter is simple; life's too short. You can be an adult, provide for your family, contribute to society, et al., and have fun while doing it. I don't see these two aspects of our lives as mutually exclusive.
This arouse out of my being excited because Thursday was my birthday. I wasn't running around all giddy all day, I was actually a bit surly because I turned thirty. That said, once I counted my blessings, I was in a pretty good mood. Friend apparently thought this was quite unreasonable. [in his best hoity-toity vioce] 'Well, a grown man...excited about a birthday...that's ridiculous'. I'm not too proud to say, I DO enjoy that one day a year that's about me. I like to have a birthday cake and dinner with my loved ones. I even enjoy unwrapping a few presents. I go out of my way to make others feel special on said day, so I don't feel bad in the least that I enjoy it. Seems to me, in our society, we often lose sight of the value of some things. I'm bound and determined not to.
