Do you live through the camera lens?

My question for you guys is when at Disney do you takes pictures of everything? Or only those special moments? The reason I ask is because I was talking about this last night with some friends. My dad has his camera in hand and LOVES taking pictures of the family, rides, signs.. Maybe a few ducks here and there lol Tongue My mom and I always say we like to remember the trip through our eyes not from pictures. I was wondering if anyone falls into those categories. The family paparazzi or the few pictures the entire trip?

I pretty much take pictures of everything - meals, light fixtures, characters, rides, clocks, flowers, etc.

In the past I have been the few pictures taker but this year I plan on taking several pictures. It always seems when we want to share a story about vacation I can't find a picture to back it up and that's frustrating. So this year I have made a vow to improve.

Ditto. Last trip I took 699 pictures. And that was after deleting the bad ones. laugh

I take a lot of pictures, but that's because I need them for the site. Before that I hated taking anything with me to the park, so I'd never bring a camera and only take pictures with DW's.

I take alot of pictures but I have backed down alot the last few years, taking in more with my eyes. Prior trips I've taken up to several thousand pictures per trip at times.

It depends for us to be honest. Our first trip with our daughter I was taking tons of pictures. Last year I only took pictures of Fireworks and when my daughter met characters, or if I found something funny, and took it with my iPhone to post on Facebook or Twitter. Like Hub... I've cut down a lot because were usually doing the same thing every year. So unless my wife tells me to take pictures... I will now leave the DSLR at AKL and just use my iPhone.

It is mixed for me. I don't take as many Disney pics as on the first couple trips, but I like to find a good shot or two. Color, angles, shapes. I also take LOTS of travel pics on other vacations and have to be very aware of putting the camera down and taking it in with my eyes. So I have lots of pics I will never use or look at more than once, and I have missed some pics I wish I had taken . . but I want to see it all, not just the small vision through the viewfinder.

I feel like I do and I've vowed not to live through the lens as much for our next trip and try and be more in the moment. It's hard though!

I think I drove my companions crazy last week with all of the pictures I took. 5 Nights and 1003 Pictures captured. I actually didn't get as many as I wanted to. I was pretty stressed out on this past trip and the camera just plain fell behind. Sometimes I do fee like I'm living through a camera lens, however I try very hard to stop and savor the moments too. You have to find a balance.

We have taken the kids to Walt Disney World twice now with a 3rd planned for this fall. The first time we went, it is a magical time, everything is new. I believe I took 982 pictures.

The 2nd time we went, I figured I would take less and I did, 962.

Each time has been a different moment. The first was pictures of everything you can think of with and for the kids. My son and I ran into Tony Kana the race car driver and I got a picture of him with my son. So you never know who you will meet or what you will see at Disney.

Also the 2nd time we went, my daughter was into the autographs of all the characters. We of course had to wait in line for these and then you have to take the pictures of all the character with the kids. This was the main reason for all the pictures the 2nd time.

No matter how many times you go, you can take pictures of things you didn't see in the prior visit. For example, look for the lights in the sidewalk in Epcot at night. I didn't see that the first time we went. Try to take a picture of Tinkerbell before the fireworks in the Magic Kingdom. I hear she has a new lighted outfit with wings, new picture opportunity.

You can take pictures of the hidden mickey's too. That I have not even thought of doing, but they are all over the place. Have you found any?

With all the picture I have taken so far, I have enough pictures that when friends go, I create a scavenger hunt for them. I put pictures on a CD by park or hotel and I ask them to try to find them. The kids of the friends have loved doing this and tell me the pictures were not hard enough for them to find.. Also when friends ask me, do you have a picture of this or that, I can go look for them. Most times I do . .

My wife would say I am anal, I organize all the pictures by park or hotel. This way I can find the subject matter easier and faster.

So when your dad goes with you to Disney and is constantly taking pictures, remember it is his trip and he is trying to capture the moment. Also remember, he is not the only one that does this. There are guys like me that do it too.

Pictures are worth a thousand words and can bring back those special times and memories after your trip. Now with digitial, you can take so many pictures and not have to worry about paying to print them and see them. You can take pictures of this and that and delete them if you don't like them. Or better yet, you can embelish them and make them even more special.

Enjoy the time with dad the next time you go to Disney and I hope the times are always magical.

I'm always surprised at how few pics I take! I think we tend to get caught up in the moment, rather than trying to capture it on film. When I do take pics, I prefer candids. My husband's family always poses everyone for pics. Consequently, we have the same photo of family, in front of different backdrops, over and over. I kinda don't get it.

It generally take tons of photos, mainly because I want to remember every detail I can for when we get home. Your not always going to remember everything about your trip, and it is nice to be able to show friends and family exactly what you were talking about. Plus, I like being able to look at photos when we get home, or weeks, months, or even years down the track, and go "I'd forgotten about that!". It's nice to remember.

Like hubby already said....the first year we went I took tons of pics and then every year since then it's been less and less....Sometimes taking pics can be a pain in the butt and it's eaiser just to not have to worry about it. Now i really just take pics of things I haven't taken pics of before and interesting things. Also this past trip i took pics of things that people on the forum wanted to see or things they suggested i should take pics of. That was a fun way to do it
