Do you think "Up" should win best picture?

I know we haven't seen every movie, but I thought "Up" is definitely a worthy contender for a best picture nomination this year. Do you guys think it's that good or am I letting my Disney bias override my judgment?

I think it might be nominated- everyone has raved about it - but I doubt it will actually win.

Have nominations been announced yet (I know last year's were announced in January)? Would love to see who UP is "up" against Wink

The trouble is, with the animation category, it's hard if not impossible for an animated film to get a nomination as best movie...

That said, it's CERTAINLY a contender for best animated film of the year.

Good point -- best film vs. best animated film...

But, I have to say, this film was so different from anything else Disney has ever done. I hope it has a chance.

Agreed. It kind of reminds me of Wall-e in that way.

I think it has a shot for best picture -- there's so many layers in that film! I'm looking forward to rooting for it...

It does sort of skew things that there is an animation only category. It seems sort of unfair that animated films can compete in the regular category, but regular films can't compete in the animated category. Still, Up sure was a good movie. Good technical merit, good story that was both funny and compelling. All the things that make a movie Oscar-worthy if you ask me.
