Does Solo Travel Make the Car Less Appealing?

I'm in the camp of renting a car when I visit WDW, but I have to say that if I was going alone, I think I'd just use the Disney Transport. I could just relax with my iPod and read. I think being there by yourself makes the car less appealing, how about you guys?

Nope. Gotta say I disagree! The things that bug me about Disney transportation don't lessen if I'm alone -- there are still LONG lines for busses when parks close, you still have to plan for at least an hour of travel to get from one hotel to another, you're still battling stroller-wielding parents and wandering kids, you still might end up standing for the whole ride if you're traveling during peak times.... I'd much rather just hop in my car and get where I'm going quickly and painlessly. Wink

I don't think it's the solo travel that makes it less appealing to me, it's the fact that a) I'm a little skittish about driving in strange places and b) I'm nightblind and I'd still have to take Disney transportation at night. So what's the point in renting a car that I can only use part-time? Although I suppose you could argue that both of those reasons might go away if I had a navigator by my side and someone who is not nightblind to drive at night. So hmm... you may have a point.

Disney transportation is just the easiest option, even though it's not the most time-efficient.

I like the idea of relaxing the heck out of solo trip, and not driving would definitely be a part of that. But I do hear bali's point on the long waits and full busses. That might not be as relaxing. I think the key is to go during non-busy times (traditionally), and enter/leave the parks at off hours. Don't go to the parks at rope drop, and don't leave after the fireworks.

I'd love to do a carless trip. I've always taken my car or gone with someone who was driving because I live so close but.......I'm thinking that one day soon I want to do a full Disney experience. By that I mean, fly in like the rest of you guys do, use Magical Express, pack light, do the grocery delivery or meal plan
and use Disney transport only and then back home on ME.

This way I can leave my car in the driveway at home and no one will know I'm gone. I can sneak solo and come back and no one would be the wiser. wink

Well I live in a condo building so yes the guards and neighbors know that if my car is there I'm home and if not I'm probably away. I do go to Disney many times a year and anyone who knows me well thinks I'm nuts going to Disney all the time. What can I say? I can't help myself. It's like a magnet drawing me in. I think Tink cast a spell on me when I was a kid.

This sneaky solo trip to WDW keeps popping up in your posts, chriskre! I can't wait to hear about it after the fact (not before the fact, of course, or it wouldn't be sneaky anymore!)

Shhhhhhhhh. Going again and it was almost a solo trip as I am going to a training class in Tampa and was going to commute but then my friends decided that I shouldn't go alone and now they're driving. sarcastic Oh well, at least I'm in the company of people who enjoy Disney unlike some of my other friends. biggrin
So a 2 night trip has turned into a 5 day vacation. Yaaaa. clapping

I don't have any Disney fan friends. If I did I'd be happy to accompany them in their journeys. silly

Where are you staying, Chriskre? Will you just be heading home each night or staying on property?

I'll be staying in HGVC Tuscany on International Drive and Vineland. It's right outside of Lake Buena Vista. It's a real nice resort. I think it's gonna be my new second home since I've run out of DVC points for this year and next year. sarcastic

Unfortunately those points are pricey. Hiltons are cheap right now and they are not ROFRing so that's why I bought at Tuscany plus they let me rent from the club for a real nice discount. Disney doesn't match those discounts. sarcastic
