Downtown Disney Hotels..

Ok, I have a question here, please keep me right..Just got a phone call from a friends daughter who is off to WDW in October ( one week before me ) But they are staying at Hilton Orlando in the downtown area..They are picking up a rental car at MCO but want to leave it at the hotel when visiting the parks..What would be the best way for them ( family of four, 2 adults 2 kids ) to get to the parks.?...They all have park hopper tickets so I presume they can use Disney's transportation..I said I would get back to them at the weekend on this question..Would taxis ( Cabs ) be the easiest option.?...Or would they head to the downtown bus depot.? confused

It depends which Hilton. There are several right around the parks. If they are staying at the Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista Area, which is usually the area that's called "downtown Disney" they have free shuttles that take people to the Parks. Also, if they are getting a car for the week, all of the Hilton's charge between $16-$18 a night to have a car parked on property. That's quite a bit of money for them to pay if they aren't really going to use the car. However, if they did drive it to the parks they would pay $17 a day at the parks and $16-$18 a night at the hotel. I would recommend they call their Hilton directly and ask about park and local transportation. There are Always taxi's and town cars sitting outside any of the Hilton's just waiting for people that need a ride. It might be a better option for them to skip the car all together if they don't plan on driving it much, and rely on free buses to Disney and taxi's anywhere else.

If they are staying at Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista, that hotel is basically across the street from Downtown Disney. They could walk to DTD and use the Disney buses or boats to get to the parks. The hotel probably has a bus to DTD also so they wouldn't have to walk to DTD.

On a side note, if they are staying at the Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista, that's the Hilton that gives them extra Magic Hours, just like when staying on property. A lot of people aren't aware of the fact that they get EMH when they stay at that Hilton. But it's only Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista that give EMH no other Hilton.

Yup! I stayed there last time. Its very close to DTD and the buses pass I think every thirty minutes. Just be careful which one you go on! I wasted an hour riding the wrong one to some bus terminal
