When the girls and I were in WDW in February we were walking past the open stage in Downtown and there were some teens from the fine arts program up on stage dancing. We stopped for a moment, jaws agape and staring in amazement at what we saw. The young teens up there dancing their hearts out were doing a decidedly *ahem* un-disney-like routine.
As they bumped and grinded it out, shaking things that their mothers may have gave them but shouldn't be seen in public, my teenager had to walk away. My best friend made the comment that she would be embarrassed if she was the mother of one of the girls. I nearly cried. You see I was a dancer in my youth and always dreamed of performing at Disney. I would have given anything to be one of the "Kids of the Kingdom", up there in my knee length skirt giving my all with a smile and an wholesome choreography.
What has happened? And why doesn't Disney have to put some sort of creative approval on the groups that entertain on their stages? I know that these youth groups have to send in audition tapes to get invited to the program. I would think that Disney would have restrictions on what they could wear and what exactaly it was okay to shake.
Have you come across you groups on this stage that didn't fit in with "Disney" values? Do you think that anything should be able to go on the Downtown Disney stage? Where should that line be drawn?
