DTD

As I obsessively plan our trip for next year, I'm trying to expand my horizons and try some new things.

I haven't spent a lot of time at DTD. We are going to Cirque du Soleil one night and I'm wondering if it's worth our time to stay down there.

A little insight on me and my fiance:

- We enjoy fine dining and wine
- We enjoy cigar bars and places we can talk
- We don't like night clubs
- I'm not a big shopper

I've heard that DisneyQuest Indoor Interactive theme park is kind of lame. I am interested in the Characters in Flight - other than that....is DTD worth it?

Thanks!

Great question! I do believe Bongos Cuban Cafe (Gloria Estafan's restaurant -- a sister restaurant to her place in Miami) has the option of cigars and cocktails on the patio. That might be something to check out. Also the Wolfgang Puck Grand Cafe "Dining Room" is a more exclusive table-service restaurant than even the Grand Cafe (not to be confused with the counter-service Express downstairs). The "Dining Room" might be something to check out.

Disney Quest is kind of lame, but fun if you like nostalgic video games and interactive stuff. We hit it on rainy days sometimes, but usually not at all.

I've also heard great things about the new Paradiso 37, which has a massive tequila bar along with some great tapas and entrees. It's right next to Characters in Flight, so that's an option. There's a nice covered patio/deck which could be perfect since you're going in November and the weather should be nice.

I think Bali's suggestions the best you can find! I have always wanted to try Bongos. It looks so neat!

I would say definately stay down there a few hours if you haven't been before. There's plenty of shopping to do. My choices for dining would be Raglan Road Pub or for something more familiar Planet Hollywood, Rainforest Cafe or the Dinosaur restaurant.

Raglan Road is a lot of fun and offers it's own live Irish music and dancing. Kind of neat! You can stop in for a cocktail, but I'd suggest the desserts -- YUM!

DTD has lots of valuable hotels and restaurants variety which have great amenities and hospitality. Rainforest Cafe and Raglan Road Pub both are great and worthwhile to dine there.

We didn't stay at Cirque du Soleil before so haven't any idea about that.

I agree with the suggestions from Bali and Tony. I can't wait to hear your review on Cirque! Never seen it and wondering if it's worth the dough!

We are old folks. We are not in such a hurry anymore and see life a bit differently than we did when we were young. We have been to Downtown Disney over 100 times and never tire of it. We find the whole essence of DTD is in the magic that is projected by everyone there. If you feel it, it is wonderful. If you don't ----- well it should be a nice day anyway.

Joe, I think that's my favorite pic of you and Jan (though I love the one of you guys smooching at All Star Movies!).

We did Cirque last year. I enjoyed it, but won't be in a rush to see it again. Mrs T probably would though.

Joe, I muchlove your matching shirts in that picture. You two are too adorable!!

I wasn't sure if you were asking about shopping, that's why I didn't mention it in my last post, I tend to think EVERYONE is talking about shopping all the time because I heart it so..but..I'm getting off track here.

Anyway, the shopping at DTD is wonderful! I could spend a half a day in World of Disney and the other half of the day in The Christmas Shoppe. I suggest buying a Wedding Christmas ornament on your honeymoon and have them personalize it for you. We made one on ours and every time we pull it out I get all mushy inside!

DW and I love DTD. For us, there is a ton to do and we've yet to tire of any of it. Some of our favorites are the Earl of Sandwich, World of Disney, just enjoying the sights and sounds, and pin trading.

I don't really enjoy shopping either, but World of Disney is worth a visit. It's fun to walk through and see the ridiculous amount of Disney merch on display. It's almost like a museum for us. We never buy anything, but we still have fun.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. Smile

I love the idea about the Christmas ornament. Great suggestion! We'll be sure to check it out.

laugh That's a really good way to put it! We rarely buy anything either, but it IS like a museum in there -- a museum of Disney consumer products!
