Everything will work out….right?

So Amtrak called me at 6:00 PM this evening to tell me the auto train we were booked to take tomorrow will not be running because of service disruptions due to the flooding in the Carolinas, and the earliest they could get us on another train would be Tuesday arriving Wednesday. So that left me with two options...make the drive in the torrential rain all along the East Coast or convince my husband to fly and try to find last minute flights. For those of you who have been on the forum for a while, you know my husband has a severe flying phobia, so I was prepared to try to make the drive. He decided he didn't want to risk it and told me to book flights. We are now scheduled to fly with the rest of my family on Sunday morning. I'm happy we were able to get a flight at the last minute, but I feel terrible for the stress it is causing my husband. I'm starting to feel like this trip is jinxed....first Disney announces the end of Duffy (my niece's favorite) then DHS shuts down the Jedi Training Academy one day before we get there (the only thing my nephew asked me if he could do) and now the travel and weather issues. That's a trifecta of things going wrong....it should all be smooth sailing from here. Right? I need a serious amount of positive thoughts and lots of pixie dust. I sure hope the weather holds up while we are down there, especially Tuesday night when I have booked a surprise Hallowishes cruise. Fingers crossed please!!!

OMG, is it too late to get some mild anxiety meds for your hubby? Try one of those walk-in clinics (not emergency room) if your doctor doesn't have Saturday hours. If it is too late, try to get hubby to close his eyes and do a little deep breathing, put on a headset with music so he can't hear airplane stuff. There's nothing anyone can say to relieve a phobia.

And you're flying down, but taking the train back, yes? So just this one flight to deal with?

Everything will be all right. That's for you, not your hubby.

Sending good wishes, a saying in my family is bad things happen in 3's so that means you are set for a magical trip.

All I can say for your hubby is that I hope he manages ok, anyone can say to him 'it will be fine' but you just can't change a phobia so I will send Pixie dust and a dose of moral support instead.

Have an amazing time.

Thanks gang! I gave him the option of flying down and taking the train back, but he said just book round trip. I can see his stress level going up, but we do have some meds that might help. I've also downloaded a movie to his iPad thinking it might provide a good distraction. Its a 2 hour 20 minute flight, so a movie should eat up most of it. I appreciate the positive thoughts and the wishes for extra pixie dust. Hopefully by this time next week, I'll be on here telling you all about our wonderful trip with no more problems. awesome

I hate, hate flying. We are leaving in 26 days, and I already have myself worried, but the iPad is a lifesaver for me. I get on. Sit in the aisle. No window for me! And I just watch a long movie, and then we are there. I wish you all the best!! Huge piles of pixie dust heading your way!!!

Everything WILL be fine. iPad, movie, get some noise cancelling headphones, have a bloody mary or three, and you'll be on the Magic Express before you know it! Have a great trip!!

Everything will be fine! After all the crazy stress you will be in the most magical place ever and you can relax and breath. As for your hubby I have issues with flying and panic attacks. My kindle is a life saver, I load a movie and some books and games and I do ok. Still lots of fun stuff for your niece and nephew to do I wouldn't worry to much.

im super scared of flying and have always traveled with meds to help calm me that my mum or wife have given me we are talking from age 8-28 I only just found out they were just tic tacs, they have always worked, so maybe you can do the same with your husband just tell him you got some flying tablets and give him a couple of tic tack to swallow, once you land you can tell him that the good news is he isn't scared of flying at all.

also bravo for him, for facing his fear what a catch

I just drove from Atlanta back to Charleston, it wasn't near as bad as we thought it would be but there are areas that are still under water. A bridge a couple miles from our house has washed out so it cuts off one of my main work routes, not to mention a little scary. It was still raining on us coming home but I see hints of blue skies.....

Glad the flight went well!

So a little Xanex and a lot of pixie dust and DH got through the flights. Thank you all for the positive thoughts and tips. His anxiety was definitely higher on the flight down then it was on the flight back. Its good we decided to fly because we heard the drive through the Carolina's was crazy and the auto train still isn't back to running.

It's still awful in many places. I will be so happy for life to get back to normal for so many people in this state. Glad he made it thru the flights! yay
