Fastpass+ Reservation System...HELP!

eek
I need some much needed understanding and advice over the new fastpass+ reservation system. My husband and I were premier annual passholders (Disneyland and DisneyWorld) for many years. We had to stop going to Disneyworld a couple of years ago due to our puppy getting sick. The last time we were there was right before they switched over to the wristbands and the new fastpass reservation system so I have a few questions! First, I am wanting to wait to upgrade our Disney passes to a few weeks before our trip. Will I still be able to make fastpass reservations or will they all be gone by then? In the past my husband and I have really enjoyed just walking around and getting fastpasses when we felt like it. If I didn't want to make any fastpass reservations would I still be able to get fastpasses in the park?

Thank you guys so much!!

By upgrade you mean that you have multi-day tickets and you want to exchange them for an AP? There is someone on the forum who has experience with exactly that issue, but I can't remember who off the top of my head. I THINK that the person in question was told that converting to the AP ahead of time would void the FP selections, so if you're within the 60-day window, it would be better to wait until the pass was almost finished before converting it at Guest Relations. However, even if my memory is correct, they are constantly tinkering with the FP system, to make it more user-friendly. You may want to make a call to verify the best way to go about this under the current system. If you wait to make your FP reservations, TSM, Anna & Elsa meet & greet, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, and Soarin' will all most likely be gone. Unless your trip falls during a holiday, I would expect that most other attractions will have FP availability.

All of the paper FP machines are now gone at WDW. However, if you converting to a Premier AP again, you'll be able to enjoy a more spontaneous FP experience at DL.

call to verify about upgrading because I've never heard that. most things are available a week before or day off. if your traveling with small group like 2 or 3 people, you will have better luck getting the popular fastpasses.
