Much of the 80's has been blanked out for me...and mostly for good reason
I have totally heard of it, Cdub
I was a Duran Duran girl the first half, and an INXS girl the second...with lots of other stuff thrown in! Hmmm...what to pick? Well, I've always wanted to go to Antigua, so here you go:
That was fun! I don't spend nearly enough time on YouTube.
My favorite is Take on Me by a-ha, but all of the videos are either crappy or banned because of music copyrights. What?!
Vevo is a hassle! You can't embed anything anymore!

Well, that's lame. How are you supposed to look at the video if it's not allowed on YouTube or what-have-you? It's not like anyone plays videos anymore (sadly.) - Do they?
It's hard for me to just pick one song... I am a huge fan of 80's music!
One I really, really, REALLY like would be "Come On Eileen" by Dexys Midnight Runners. I know those guys were pretty much one hit wonders but I've loved that song since my childhood.
Amerise - welcome! and I quite agree! I also love "Our House" by Madness and "In A Big Country" by Big Country and anything by the Thompson Twins and Wham! and Culture Club and Adam Ant and... Ah, 80's music. I am sooooo showing my age.

OH my goodness..when I was in 2nd grade I told everyone in my class that my brother played drums for A-Ha and one of the kids in my class told her Dad who happened to be a DJ at a radio station and he called my mom to try and get an interview.
I got in SO much trouble for that.
I'm amazed at how many British bands you guys are picking here so I'll pick an American one...
You Give Love A Bad Name, Bon Jovi. It was the song that broke them in the UK and 25 years later I still can't keep still every time I hear it.
I can only please one person per day. Today isn't your day... tomorrow doesn't look good either.

I was half waiting for you to chime in with that one, Tony. I was all British (well, with a smattering of Australian and the odd German here or there - 99 Red Balloons, anyone?) during the 80s. I didn't get into any of the harder glammy stuff we were putting out, like Poison, Motley Crue, etc. But I agree - Bon Jovi is fabulous.
I'm sorry I keep dominating this thread. Clearly I need to make a trip to the iTunes store and pick up some favorites so I can stop talking about it to all of you so much.
(Oh. And Madonna. Can't forget her.)
And, was making oatmeal and remembered U2! There was just too much good music for me to pick 1!
Brits pretty much invented "New Wave" right?

Thank you for the welcome I love everything you just mentioned, actually! "In A Big Country" is also one of my favorite songs.
Mine will be something you've heard..so no points for me...
My favorite 80's song....Power of Love by Huey Lewis and the News..
OH! I about changed what I was going to write when you said that one! Thats a great song.
For me....

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH WE'RE HALFWAY THERE...Loved that song!
For those who mentioned liking Big Country, here's a favorite of mine by them that didn't get as much airplay:
Those are awesome! Thx for the "new" BC song, Cdub! And is there a better Bon Jovi video? I love it goes from black and white to color.
This thread is officially haunting me. Again, while making oatmeal this morning...inspiration struck. The Police!!
I haven't stopped listening to 80's music since I found this thread... and I love that BC song, Cdub!
Did this band make it stateside?

I thought Marillion was more Prog-Rock? I don't think they ever were very big here.
Does that count as one the CDub hasn't heard of then?

Don't remember them...and yes, Tony...well, unless he's heard of them. Yep...I TOTALLY ignored that part of the game, didn't I? But I bet I could come up with DD songs he hasn't heard

I had not heard that song though I had heard Marillion. I have "Script for a Jester's Tear" around here somewhere.
Here's another great Big Country song. I'm including one with good audio because the TOTPs video doesn't have good sound, but you need to see the video:
Good sound:

Remember this one?
Just barely made it in... lol

Can everyone sing all the words to "We Didn't Start the Fire?"
