I love 'once upon a Christmas song' by Geraldine McQueen (Peter Kay)

It came from a spoof reality show called

Peter Kay's Britain's Got the Pop Factor... and Possibly a New Celebrity Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly on Ice

It was a great show but also the song takes me back to the cheesy uk Christmas number 1 songs we used to have, like Mr blobby, the teletubbies and various other awful creations

I think I'll go with My December by Linkin Park and Christmas Lights by Coldplay.

On a more sacred music slant, I'm a fan of Mary Chapin Carpenter's "Still, Still, Still" and Sixpence None the Richer's "O Come O Come Emmanuel" and "Angels We Have Heard on High" (pretty mainstream songs, but I love their versions). I also have a version of "O Come O Come Emmanuel" from an album called An A Capella Christmas that I'm particularly fond of.

For some fun secular Christmas faves, I love "Baby It's Cold Outside" (Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong), "All I Want for Christmas is You" (the Mariah Carey version is probably the most reliable), and "The Chipmunk Christmas Song" from Alvin and the Chipmunks. Oh! And "Once Upon a Wintertime" from the short by the same name from Melody Time. That reminds me...I need to go find that and add it to my Christmas playlist...

I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas.

Not sure if that's actually the name of the song, but it's the first line. Fun song, sung by a girl who was maybe 10 years old at the time. Amazing voice for a kid so young; I assumed she was an adult pretending to be a child when I first heard the song on the radio. If you saw Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever, that was the song the played during the opening credits.

I too love the original 1984 version, not the new updated one - it just doesn't sound right.

All I Want for Christmas is You by Vince Vance and the Valiants. Same title but it's a different song than the one Mariah Carey sings.

I also have a song from a CD called Santa Sings

Is this the way to Santa's Grotto (to the tune of Is this the way to Amirillo)

I have nearly 200 songs on my christmas play list, I start playing them on 1st November, as I drive a fair amount for a living I have been through the list about 4 times now silly

Here we go, for those who've never heard it...

This song is older than I am, and I'm pretty darn old.

She & Him have a really great Christmas album. Most of the songs are traditional, but they are good versions. The girl is Zoe Deschanel from New Girl and Elf.

I'm also always partial to N*Sync's Christmas song. 'Merry Christmas (Happy Holidays)'.. anyone else? No? Just Me? Cool

And I don't know if you're into this kind of music but Fall Out Boy's 'Yule Shoot Your Eye Out' is one of my faves, actually anything off the Santa Cause Punk Rock Christmas CD is good and a little different.

Also I'm not sure if you use Pandora but you can make custom Christmas stations on there. I have one that I've added so many of my favorite songs that it has a really good mix. Everything from traditional Nat King Cole to James Brown to Rum DMC. I love it!
