Fixed Week Sales to Be Offered at Grand Floridian DVC

Looks like a fixed week option (traditional time share style) will be available at the Grand Floridian Villas. This seems rather retrogressive to me. I love the flexibility that points give. What do you guys think?

As I have previously stated, we're in the process of buying DVC resale. I don't think I like the fixed option at the Grand Floridian Villas. One of the reasons we even considered DVC was because of the flexibility of the points. My parents have a fixed week timeshare at Westgate and I never consider staying there...in fact, we're looking to get rid of it because nobody uses it. I think by having the fixed option at GFV it will also limit the number of owners that can stay at GFV if that's not their home resort. Maybe that's why Disney is offering fixed options?

My first thoughts on this, I think I like it. I am looking at it from our vacation habits though. There is one week per year in which we always go. It would be nice not to have to worry about booking it.

Interesting. I see that making the 7 Month booking window much tougher. I can also can see how someone might want this option, especially if you vacation the week of Christmas and New Years, year after year. You're in, automatically.

It is capped at a pretty low percentage, but it is still going to make availability a little more slim.

I agree entirely that it could make it a lot harder to get a 7 month spot, especially at peak times.

I love the flexibility of the current DVC points system, I don't think I would enjoy locking myself into a specific week at no resort. Lets see how much they will sell for, and the availability of rooms.

btw twilightsparrow, are you aware of some of the limitations wrt the use of DVC resale purchased points? My understanding is that they (DVC resale points) cannot be used for Disney cruises, etc. Just a thought to consider.

We took that into consideration before making our offer on the resale contract but decided that since we're not really cruise people and are most interested in using DVC at WDW it would be more beneficial for us to buy resale. When we travel to Europe we usually stay at our parents' houses in Portugal and Spain so losing the exchanges option wasn't a big deal either. If we get through ROFR and close we're already thinking of buying a smaller contract at one of the higher demand resorts...but it won't be at the Grand Floridian Villas I'm sure...lol.
