Gas Stations

At home I've got a great discount card for gas through my grocery store, but that's mainly a local thing. I'm wondering if there are any ways to save on gas while traveling to Florida?

Does anyone have an idea of what the major gas providers through Tennessee, Georgia & Florida? BP? Mobile?
Will I use more gas going through the mountains in Tennessee vs. my normal flats of Illinois?
Someone fill me in on what I should expect biggrin

I would not think you would use much more gas with the mountains. You will get much better gas milage on the interstates though. We use around $300 of gas round trip. That is driving a car. Our trip comes in at just under 2000 miles round trip.

I drive an older model of the van that we're going to be renting. Normally starting at full I need to fill up my gas tank up after about 5 hours of Interstate driving ($80). Google Maps says that I've got 1,261 miles one way and that it should take about 19 Hours.

Rounding that up to 20 Hours and dividing by 5. I'm thinking that I should need about 4 full tanks of gas to get to WDW. About $320 each way - less $80 because the van will be full when we pick it up, bring me to $560.

So crazy, but even with the rental and hotels on the road still significantly less than it would have cost us to fly.

I just checked with the AAA Fuel Cost Calculator and got $500 (okay - $499.86) for the round trip. I'd say your estimate is pretty much right on.

We also have a great gas card we can use through the Kroger grocery store chain. We cross boarder shop quite a bit and fill up every chance we get for a lot less than what we pay here. The Kroger card not only is associated with there own gas stations but we can also use our points card at shell stations pretty much all the way down the I75 until there are no longer Kroger grocery stores. Once we hit Florida the Winn Dixie stores are associated with Shell. I wonder if we could get a Winn Dixie card?

Hrmmm... my card is through Logli (a Kroger affiliate) I thought that it was only good locally, but now I wonder if I could use it elsewhere. I think I'll have to do a little more research into that.

Hi, I've been lurking this forum for weeks but just had to register so I could maybe help you out with this!!

I live just south of Atlanta and I've made the trek to Orlando/WDW (once for actually visiting The World, and the second trip was for Spring Training, which was of course at WWOS but that was all we did Disney-wise aside from DTD) twice this year (in the span of six weeks, no less!). One thing I learned was do NOT try to fill up in Park City, Florida. It's amazing for dining and accommodations, but on my second trip I stopped there to fill up and it cost me a good 20 cents more than any other stop!!

Georgia has all the main gas stations: Shell, BP, Exxon, Chevron, Walmart, Kroger, etc. And the magical QuikTrips around metro Atlanta. All through Georgia/Florida I get about 23mpg and I have an older model Mustang. It's all I-75/Turnpike so it's easy.

Don't try and fill up in downtown Atlanta. Do either a suburb north (Kennesaw or Marietta, mainly) or one south (McDonough tends to have the cheapest gas on the south side), or if you can, wait until Macon or even Tifton, depending on when your last fill up was. I can fill up in Tifton and make it the rest of the way to Disney no problem. biggrin

Thanks so much SpamGoddess and stars Welcome to the Forum! stars
I'll be sure to get gas around Marietta and then again before we get into Florida.

I've got so many suggestions and tip for this drive I need to put them into a notebook of something so I don't forget.
