Give Me Your Best Pitch To Convince My Family

Oh boy - today has been interesting. Our landlord told my husband that he will be walking away from this house at the end of July. This means that we have to move. Soon.

I may or may not be shopping Orlando rental houses on Craigslist.

Give me your best 30 second elevator pitch to convince my family that now is the time for us to finally make the move. Because honestly, I think this might be it. What would you say (or did you say - Jeff) to convince your loved ones that you really should move much, much, much closer to Disney?

All you should really have to say is "Close to Disney!" How can that not sell them laugh

Seriously though, if your family has been thinking about it, this is the push you need. Take it as a sign that this is the time to go for it. If you have to move anyway, why not to Florida?

I agree - it's a sign. You were talking about moving anyway. it's just sooner rather than later.

No time like the present!
YOLO!
No State income tax
Affordable in many places
Sunshine and no snow shoveling!!!!
ACCESS ACCESS ACCESS!!!! (To Disney, of course)
Not 1 but 2 coasts of beaches!!!
FL resident passes are da bomb (and boy did we make.the right decision to renew last.momnth!! Woke up to a $30 price increase this morning for the weekday select! Between that and the 15% renewal.discount we just saved $75 per AP)
The passes and access allow you to experience alot more throughout the year, including special release merchadise, special events, VIPassholder events, etc. that are harder to get to it you have to travel to be there.

Having WDW in the backyard - imagine the possibilities! Visits are much more relaxing because we know we can come back anytime.

I'm lucky in that Joe is very flexible and accommodating and easy going. But I purposefully chose not-Orlando so it wasn't "we're moving to Florida JUST for Disney". I sometimes worry about getting tired of it - not so much Disney but the crowds, people being rude and jerks (and drunks), the endless new ways to make it more special for people with money to afford all the "extra" this and thats - so I wanted to not be stuck in Orlando if that ever happened. Close enough to go often to satisfy me but far enough away so it's not in our/Joe's face. It's a good balance for us.

It's been on my bucket list for a while to live in FL and be a Passholder and go alot. I'm lucky enough to be able to work from home full time, but I've always been asked to live near a major hub of my employer (which ruled out Florida). But in 2017 I got a manager that said she did not care at all where I lived, and that was the opening I needed to get to FL.

The financials made the most sense for Joe. So I honed in on that aspect more than the others.

Lucky! I was on a conference call a few months ago with my boss and a guy who works remote and lives in FL. I asked my boss if I can work from FL and she said "ah, no".

Ugh! The convincing is not going well. sarcastic

It hasn't been a "we can never do this." It's been a "give us a year to pull things together, downsize our house, save some money, yadda yadda yadda. Where as I'm all "Now is the time!"

Apparently people don't just up and move, or so I am told.

I'm going, are you coming with??

But seriously. You can downsize, just do it in Florida. Like Jeff said, it doesn't have to be Orlando, just get much closer. There are some really lovely places close.

Just do it!

This is perfect time to go, you don't have to give notice and sometimes destiny nudges, sounds like they are scared. G and I moved from London to just outside Liverpool, I had no job and knew no one. Would I change doing this no, we have the house we have dreamed of but never thought we would get, I have now been in my job a year, G now works for Bank of New York on a higher salary (we thought it would be a cut coming up here) sometimes you just have to believe and go with it. All the other points made here I agree with x

Yes! I really think that they are. I wish that I could change that.

In the mean time I have been purging the heck out of my house.

How are things going? Are we all coming to Florida for a house warming (although it could be the longest house warming ever with all our different visit times)!!

Not yet. *sigh* The plan at the moment is for my kids Katie and Kirk (and fiancee) to move down by the end of 2019. However Geordon, Tori and I are probably staying where we are for another year.

That being said I have already started majorly purging crap from the house and doing everything I can to make packing and going easier on me once we have a little money for a moving cushion. I'm not happy that I don't get to go right now, but I've waited this long, I can go a little longer.
