Good-bye Main Street Electrical Parade

I'm so sad that the Main Street Electrical Parade is leaving the Magic Kingdom again.

I really hope this means that we'll get Paint The Night sometime next year, but it certainly seems more like it is a cost cutting measure due to such low attendance over the summer. I love the Parks so much more after dark, and the sparkling parade is one of my favorites. I have a feeling that I'll be going back to the hotel a little earlier on my Magic Kingdom nights.

How do you feel about this departure?

Am so sad. It seems the reason that I picked to go to Disney next December was to see the resorts decorated and the parks but to see Osborn Light show (which is no more) and I just loved Electric Parade. Gee whiz...what else are they going to stop I wonder????

OK, I am just going to say this and then I am going to run and look for cover. eek laugh

I don't do the parades.... I've seen parts of them go by as they are happening but we've never staked out a spot and watched them. sarcastic

waiting Everyone have their jaws off the floor yet? waiting

I would be down with watching a parade with marching bands but that's about it. I saw the electrical parade once. It's cute, I enjoyed seeing all of the floats back stage on the tour but I wouldn't "plan" on working it in to a trip.

We saw the AK parade once and I've seen part of the move it! shake it! Not sure why we aren't Disney Parade people, just isn't our thing I guess.

Your post has me cracking up...run for cover and the jaw dropping. Nice way to end my day. And I know other people including my daughter-in-law who is not a parade person. I say that is why Disney has so many different things. And again thanks for making me laugh. rolling

I know this group isn't this way but some Disney hard cores will try to burn you at the stake for not liking certain things!! Glad I could help with the laughter!

Not at all JMed - I'm really not a big parade person either. I like the Main Street Electrical Parade, and I really love the Boo To You, other than that I can skip the parades. I never even saw SpectroMagic, and the only reason I watched Festival of Fantasy was so I could cover it here on the blog.

That being said, I want to see Disneyland's Paint The Night Parade because some of the effects look really cool on video and I would like to see them in person.

I love the Parades! It brings the crowds down on the rides and food locations. Just make sure you are on the right side of the park when they start, or you are trapped. Like the music during the parades though.

Yup, no jaw on the floor for me. I'm generally not a parade person AT ALL. Hence why we haven't seen Main Street Electrical in a loooooooong time. But I do think Penny would have really enjoyed it so I'm bummed not to have gotten to take her one time before it left. I do enjoy Festival of Fantasy and Boo to You though, but I definitely don't need to do them every trip.

We don't do the parades either JMed, that's when we head for the good rides, when everyone else is finding a spot for the parades.

Yeah, I'm not big on parades either. Never have been, even as a kid. I particularly dislike small town parades like where I grew up. A bunch of old tractors pulling waving people that I could care less about. BOOOOORRRRIIIIIING!

I will watch a new parade just to see it, but then I've no need to see it again.

Ugh YES! And it shuts down the whole town because you can't drive anywhere! My MIL is obsessed with these and DH and I can't stand them.

We went to see the parade for the Powassan fall fair a couple years ago because it was a Disney theme. One "float" or wagon had a couple people dressed as Dalmatians. Someone else wore a Donald hat. Other than that it was just classic cars and tractors driving down the road laugh

Haha! That's exactly what they're like.

I haven't been to Powassan in a long time - we have family in Golden Valley where my dad grew up. wink

We are lucky enough to see it before it is done. Hoping that AK gets Rivers of Light ready in time for our trip but not betting on it.

In general, I think Disney does parades well, but there are definitely some that after a few viewings, I don't feel the need to see again! I love Boo to You, but I like Once Upon a Christmastime even more. In fact, Once Upon a Christmastime is probably my favorite parade in total. I'm a fan of Festival of Fantasy, but I've seen it a bunch of times, so I don't prioritize stopping to watch anymore. I'm not a huge fan of Main Street Electrical, so I'm not all that torn up about it moving west for awhile. I used to like the Pixar parade at DHS, but I wasn't so much a fan of Mickey's Jammin' Jungle parade at AK. I didn't care for the 3:00 parade that preceded FoF at all. Benn really liked the old Star Wars weekend parade. I would have been fine with a slightly shorter version of that one. Among the mini parades, I'm not a fan of Move It, Shake It, but I love the Main Street Trolley show.

I'd love to get Paint the Night here; it puts MSE to shame and it uses a reprise mix of "When Can I See You Again" from Wreck-It Ralph, which is one of my favorite songs ever. I also like Mickey's Soundsational Parade in DL. It reminds me of the cheesy 1990's style of parades. Its not flashy or over the top in any way but it has a strong Mary Poppins presence. The Pixar parade at DCA is great for getting the chance to see less common characters and I love that they have gymnasts swinging high bar giants on the Toy Story float WHILE IT'S MOVING!

I'm usually okay with seeing a parade once and then maybe if I happen to be passing by when it's coming. But the Main Street Electrical Parade was my favorite. I would go out of my way and wait a while to see that one. Now I'm seriously bummed that it will be gone before we return.

I have to admit, I can usually do without the daytime parades, (although the dance party parade at noon is a fun way to interact with some of the characters outside of the meet & greets).

BUT, the Main Street Electrical Parade is one of my FAVORITE Things at Disney...So It will be missed.

That said, a colleague of mine, who just moved from California, had heard that the Main Street Electrical Parade is actually being moved to Disneyland for a limited time. With a quick internet search, there seem to be some news reports to support this -- So Main Street may be leaving Florida, but its moving to California. mickey

I also have a feeling as fall and winter approaches, that with Mickey's Halloween and Christmas Parties... that Disney may be thinking that ~Holiday~ Evening Parades will take the place of the Electrical Parade. I've never been to the Halloween party, but I seem to recall the Evening Christmas Parade being lighted, but still distinctly different from the Main street floats and parade.

One can only hope that Disney is just "switching things up" since it also plans to end Paint the Night at Disneyland this fall.... Hopefully, they'll give the Florida park fans a taste of the new show.
